OM SYSTEM M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm F2.8 PRO for Micro Four Thirds System Camera, Light Weight Powerful Zoom, Weather Sealed Design, MF Clutch, Compatible with Teleconverter

I recently picked up a G9 with the 12-60 Lumix kit lens. I have been enjoying taking a variety of photos with that setup, but I kept reading how good the OM-System 40-150 f2.8 Pro was. I saw an amazing offer on a new lens here on Amazon (cheaper than some of the better used options out there) and decided to pull the trigger. This lens is on a whole other level compared to the kit lens, and gives me more versatility than the 25mm f1.7 prime lens I also picked up. This has great reach, and wide open, makes for a great sports photography lens to freeze the action and rarely miss the shot. The auto focus is lightning fast, and the reach creates great compression for background separation. Given the weakness inherent in the G9 contrast based auto focus system, the inclusion of the manual focus clutch has come in handy in several situations. I was also glad to see that the L-Fn button on the lens was programmable on the G9 with the latest firmware update. The all-metal construction feels very premium, and the lens hood is so unique, it commands attention whenever I pop it out. This lens makes photography fun with the quality shots you can grab. I am very happy with this purchase, and even though it is a pricey lens, it was well worth the price of admission. Grab one if you can.

Edited: Once I figured out how to contact someone from Amazon the issue of the missing filters was resolved satisfactorily. The lens itself is terrific. I have a number of OM lenses for my OM System cameras and this is my overall favorite lens. Tack sharp and fast auto focus. This item was listed as follows: "OM SYSTEM M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO Lens for Micro Four Thirds, Black, Bundle with Hoya 77mm UV and CPL Filters." The lens was delivered but the UV and CPL filters that were promised were not included. I would be happy to revise this review to focus on the lens (which is, of course, what is most important) if the matter of the missing filters is addressed.

This is one of the best lenses I've ever used. By itself it's great for portraits, sports, and wildlife. With the teleconverters it's extremely versatile. I've gotten great results with both the 1.4x and 2x teleconverters, to the extent that I sold my 100-400mm lens. I miss the extra reach occasionally, but not the extra weight.

Is there a sharper zoom lens available on any platform? Doubt it. Is there a more versatile zoom available on any platform? Doubt that too. Yes, it is a bit large and heavy for the MFT platform but it is absolutely tiny compared to its full frame equivalents and the build quality exceeds most of those in the bargain. Coming from 25 years on Nikon, I loved their $3000 70-200mm VRII zoom but this blows that out of the water and at half the price!
