WORKS A TREAT
Having tolerated several very blunt knives for too long, and failing to sharpen them successfully using a sharpening stone, I decided to look around for alternatives. There followed several weeks of looking at reviews for rolling knife sharpeners, ranging from the ridiculously expensive Horl, down to the cheap Chinese knock-offs. Reviews were not good for the cheap ones, saying they do not roll freely and the magnets are weak, which is dangerous. I settled on the HONE as I liked the reviews and liked the idea of it being made somewhere other than China. I am so glad I bought one. First impressions: the roller is heavy and feels high quality and the ball bearings mean it rolls freely with no resistance or skidding. Although I have not used any other makes, from the pictures, it does appear that the barrel is also longer than other makes, allowing you to keep your hand well away from the upturned edge of the knife; a safety plus. The magnets are super strong, and quite some effort is required to separate the knife from the block; another safety plus. The discs are removeable and reversible, so you have twice the life and can replace them if they wear out, again, a feature not found on the cheaper knock-offs. My knives were very blunt so I gave them 100 passes on each side and with each of the two discs (Course and fine), that's 400 passes total. It took about 10 minutes per knife but by the end each knife passed the paper and ripe tomato tests. My knives are Santoku Damascus steel so very hard, yet the HONE brought them up to a very sharp condition. A 2nd sharpening some 2 weeks later and they are even sharper. These rolling sharpeners take the guesswork out of knife sharpening and at £100, the HONE is probably towards the pricier end of the market but worth every penny in my view.

Excellent quality, very pleased with results.
This is a superb knife sharpener, solidly built and so easy to use, I wish I’d got one of these a long time ago instead of the old sharpening steel I used for ages. It’s not cheap but it’s definitely worth it, excellent packaging which keeps everything tidy when stored.

Great product...
Great product After much frustration with various knife sharpeners, i undertook a lot of research into "rollers". There are loads of cheap knock offs and the expensive original Horl (Germany). Having looked at many Youtubes, the Hone systems looked best in class and although not cheap, it is a good price point. I have rated it 4 not 5, in truth 4.5 would be better. The magnets great and hold knife in correct angle, making it really easy to get it right. Plus point - it holds short and long knives in two different slots. If your knives are blunt - really important to follow the three steps: coarse disc > fine > super fine (ceramic 3000). I found it easy to get sharp. But I'm struggling with "razor sharp" - you see the videos of slicing paper held in fingers. I asked for the ceramic 3000 disc to go with the standard model to see if could improve. (This was sent FOC, just posting). In my view - the ceramic should be part bundle with all units! Rather than focus on the number of passes, I found it much easier to listen to the sound. First pass is very scratchy.....then it gets smooth when you get onto the ceramic - it quickly loses sound and glides almost like going through butter. Been in contact with Hone customer services (excellent - reply to emails quickly and professionally). They say the ceramic should give razor-sharp cut through paper. I'm still not sure. Many sites insist this is a down to the quality of steel and the final use of a leather strop. At some stage I buy a strop and test. For now, happy just to have sharp knives. Overall is the Hone worth the investment? If you have lots of knives and you want something that is easy and frankly almost foolproof - this is the tool. If you want razor-sharp - You might still need to use a leather strop.

Fast, very effective and easy to use.
Had bought a cheaper version earlier which was OK, but it took ages to make knives sharp. There had to be a better way - but not at the BMW price of the German market leader, Not prepared to pay that. So I took a bit of a chance on the Hone at under half the price and it paid off. Excellent product that works fast, efficiently and is really easy to use. The base unit is particularly well designed with with two angles (15 and 20 degrees) but four sides - two being specifically designed to support smaller knives, with the usual two for larger knives. Magnets are well positioned and reassuringly strong. Double-sided high-quality rotating diamond honing plates also make for a very cost-effective product. Rate this product very highly indeed.

Brilliant rolling sharpener!
After an incredible number of hours deliberating over every possible option for sharpening my knives, I settled on trying out the Hone. I only discovered this relatively recently in my research, but it was clear looking at their website that they've put real thought and innovation into the entire system (not just the roller itself). Having used it now to sharpen some knives I can say I'm really pleased with my decision (it took a blunt knife back to very sharp quickly and easily) and I'll be looking to buy some of their accessories to really go to town on the sharpness. The product feels very well made (got a good, solid weight to it), rolls very smoothly and looks good too. It's easy (and satisfying) to use and I can definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to get incredibly sharp knives from a well designed and thought out system.

Very Impressed
Having wasted lots of time reading and watching reviews of rolling knife sharpeners I’d narrowed my search down to two devices, the HONE or the HORL. They look very similar, except the HORL is a silly price, and I really can’t see where they’ve spent all that extra money. Spare parts for the HORL are equally overpriced, so I decided to bite the bullet with a HONE Knife Sharpener, which has received consistently good reviews and is sensibly priced. My First Impressions of the HONE Knife Sharpener are very positive, the roller appears to be machined from a solid block of aluminium and is reassuringly heavy, and this rotates smoothly on a pair of ball bearings with little to no resistance. The magnets are also very strong, so I can’t see a knife coming loose while it’s attached to the base, which is pretty important when there’s a razor sharp blade pretty close by, although the roller is quite wide so I didn’t feel that my hand was getting uncomfortably close to the blade at any time. My first attempts at using the HONE Knife Sharpener were a couple of cheap stainless steel kitchen knives that I bought about 20 years ago. Despite my repeated efforts with stones, steels and files etc I’ve never succeeded in getting them really sharp, so they became the sacrificial guinea pigs. Unsurprisingly, they both took numerous passes with 400 and then 1000 grit discs and, thanks to the abuse they’d received over the years, both took a long time to sharpen, but sharpen they did. To say I’m impressed is an understatement, I will be trying my Wusthof knives next, but I’ll wait till I have the ceramic honing disc before I go anywhere near them.

An excellent knife sharpener.
I’ve always struggled to sharpen my kitchen knives and over the years I’ve tried many different methods. I found sharpening by hand using whetstones too difficult to get consistent results, the Lansky method too laborious, and pull through and electric sharpeners not good enough. So I thought I’d give a rolling sharpener a go and decided to try the Hone. It’s just perfect for me. It’s easy to use, sharpens quickly and efficiently to an excellent level of sharpness. Certainly more than adequate for my needs. A great piece of kit. If your looking at a method/tool to sharpen your kitchen knives to a high standard - don’t hesitate to consider the Hone sharpener.

HORL quality without the HORL price
I was warned to avoid rolling sharpeners unless I was ready to shell out for a HORL. While HORL is the original and highly regarded in this space, it's also extremely expensive. So I went down the rabbit hole--YouTube videos, online reviews, deep Amazon dives--looking for a worthy alternative that wouldn't break the bank. That's when I came across HONE, a Canadian brand. Most of the lower-priced rolling sharpeners get slammed for weak magnets, poor construction, or cheap sharpening discs. HONE has none of these issues. Build quality is solid, the magnets are strong and reliable, and the sharpening discs feel premium. One feature I use all the time is the small knife pocket on the magnetic base--it holds little blades securely and makes sharpening them easy. I genuinely couldn't be happier with my purchase. All my knives are sharp again, and now I look for excuses to chop things.

Best knife sharpener
I've been getting a ton of Facebook ads for a rolling knife sharpener lately, so naturally, my curiosity got the better of me …. att first, I was tempted to buy it right away, but I thought, "Why not check out some comparison videos first?" Thank goodness I did. The original sharpener from Germany looked top-notch but was way out of my price range….. the one that kept appearing in the ads had a flood of negative reviews talking about it jamming after a while, which was a huge red flag for me. As I continued my search ….. I stumbled upon some videos featuring the HONE Knife Sharpener. The reviewers' positive feedback caught my attention, so I decided to take a leap of faith and purchase it. The return policy and 10-year warranty on manufacturer’s website gave me some peace of mind, just in case it didn't live up to the hype. Well, let me tell you, this sharpener exceeded my expectations. I've never had knives this sharp before. The company's claims were spot on. It's incredibly easy to use, with a solid, heavy-duty build. The two-sided reversible discs are a fantastic feature, making the whole process quick and effective. My knives are now sharper than ever before – almost frighteningly so. It's made cooking so much more enjoyable and fun, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. If you're thinking about getting one, I say go for it. You won't regret it.

Quality product, easy to use
I purchased the Hone knife sharpener after doing a lot of research into several other brands including Tumbler, Horl and all the Chinese cheapo brands. I chose the Hone knife sharpener for a couple of reasons. According to their marketing, it uses ball bearings in the construction, it has removable, two-sided sharpening discs and it uses the strongest magnets to hold your knife in place while sharpening. I just sharpened my first knife and confirm all of the above. Small knives for most of these types of sharpeners just can't be done, but I was able to sharpen my 4" paring knife without an issue because of the way the knife mounting block was designed. It was so easy to use because the block you attach the knife to, did indeed, have incredibly strong magnets that held the knife rock solid while I used the wonderfully smooth rolling sharpener. The roller is heavy and feels well-constructed and solid in your hand. Several strokes of the course disc on each side of the knife followed by the same using the fine disc and my knife came back to life! The sharpening disks are removable and replaceable, plus you can buy other discs with different grit levels to hone your knife to a razor's edge if needed. The outrageously expensive Horl system can do the same. but at more than twice the price! The Tumbler doesn't have this capability nor the strong magnetic system and costs about the same as the Hone. Don't even bother with the Chinese cheapo knockoffs. I believe the Hone knife sharpener is the best value for the money in this knife sharpening category. The product came beautifully packaged but didn't include any documentation or use instructions. However, there is plenty of good information on their website.

Great value and quality.
I've tried various knife sharpeners over the years, but the HONE Rolling Knife Sharpener feels solid, and the rolling mechanism glides smoothly along the work surface, making sharpening effortless. What I love most are the diamond-coated discs. The #400 grit is perfect for restoring dull edges, and the #1000 grit leaves my knives razor-sharp. Having both a 15-degree and 20-degree angle is another great thing about this. I can sharpen everything from chef's knives to smaller utility blades with precision. The magnets hold the discs and knives securely in place and It’s also super easy to clean and maintain, thanks to the detachable disc system. In just a few passes, my knives went from dull to slicing through vegetables and meats like butter. If you're looking for a reliable, well-designed sharpener that delivers professional results, the HONE Rolling Knife Sharpener is it! Highly recommend it to any home cook or knife enthusiast.

Impressive Results – Even on Very Dull Knives!
I was skeptical at first when I bought the HONE Knife Sharpener, especially since I had a number of very dull Global knives and some decent 20-degree edged knives that needed sharpening. I wasn’t sure if this sharpener could bring them back to life, but I was pleasantly surprised! For the very dull knives, you do need to be patient and persevere, but the sharpener does an excellent job if you stick with it. After spending some time with my Global knives, I was amazed at how sharp they became – almost like new! It also worked wonderfully on my 20-degree edged knives, giving them a clean, sharp edge in no time. The build quality of the HONE sharpener feels solid, and it’s easy to use. Overall, it’s definitely worth the investment if you're looking for a reliable sharpener that works on a variety of knives. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to bring their dull knives back to peak performance!
