DIY Murphy Bed Kit Queen Vertical | Murphy Bed Hardware for Wall Cabinet, Vertical Queen Frame, Deluxe Mechanism Kit with Bonus Tools

I constructed this by myself with solid wood products from Home Depot. I also did all of my cuts with a circular saw and makeshift stands to hold the wood. The quality of the kit is phenomenal. The instructions were pretty clear and decently easy to follow. The size of my kit was a queen frame, and it is a very solid piece of furniture bolted into the wall. It works perfectly as a pulldown, although for some people, depending on the wood you choose, it may be heavy to lift up and down. My wife is able to do pull it down and she is 5’6 and athletic build just as reference. This did take me two days to put together, but if I had a table saw and stands to hold the wood I imagine I could have flown through this project. The bed has been assembled for over a year now and pulling it down/pushing it down has remained consistent with no changes.

This company did an awesome job putting together an excellent product! It came with very detailed, and easy to read and understand instruction pamphlets. One pamphlet outlined the materials you need and a very detailed cut sheet on exact sizes to cut every piece needed. The other pamphlet is a detailed step by step instruction sheet on how to build your Murphy bed. Also they have tutorials online to view if you need more help. I can’t say enough how impressed with the quality of the product as well as the instructions. I did not follow the instructions to the letter, as I did not want to build mine out of plywood. I am a furniture builder and I love exotic wood, so I had to change some of the measurements to get the end product that I wanted. But the information provided, allowed me to make adjustments as I needed along the way. Great company, great product and it works perfect!

Ended up very precise and organized instructions, though a couple of instructions were not clear, too small illustrations, and/or seemingly conflicting measurements. The QR code video instructions were helpful, no audio which would've made it even better. Edge Banding illustrations were so miniscule, I had to Band an additional piece I missed, mid-construction. Instruction measurement on attaching the upper headboard had conflict between written step #2 and the illustration (one says 5 1/2", picture shows 5". Step 4 confusing, Step 5 says 3 screws, illustration shows 2. The need to paint final exposed pieces or finish as desired is not emphasized enough or clearly. So my attached pictures are not finish completed yet. I sunk the murphy bed in a closed off doorway, so only 6" protrudes. I adjusted this pattern width and height to fit doorway with no problem. Very sturdy and tight fitting construction.

You do need to have woodworking tools and skill. The instructions were pretty good. On the cut list, the measurements did not match on one sheet, printing error. And another spot it said to use 1 1/4 screws to connect a 2x2 to a 3/4” ply……ya, use 2”😅. And you don’t need to band everything they say. But unless you have intimate knowledge of the parts, you’re just going to have to band everything. And one or two smaller print mistakes like if you want a twin support rod, it’s not 39” like in the book, if it sounds fishy read shared and make your decision. Customer service is very quick to respond. I asked them if I could take 2 singles and make a bunk and if they had plans for that. They said, no, do not make a bunk out of it. As you can see in the pictures, I did it anyway. I made a couple modifications. 1- side boards are double tall so it’s one piece. 2- reversed the legs on the top bunk for a roll bar….. not sure that was worth it 🤷‍♀️. I painted before I put together because it is way easier to paint before hardware and corners are created. I painted one side of each banded board. And I read ahead and found a few more un-banded boards that would need paint. This project did take me working for several days (I do get interrupted a lot). The instructions were easy to follow. The video was helpful, but super annoying not to have words. Maybe people complained about the audio before🤷‍♀️. Yes, I recommend this item.

It took a long time to finish, you’ll need a day just to do all the wood purchase and cuts, 1-2 days for assembly/edge banding etc etc. There are a ton of cuts and if you don’t have access or experience w a mitre saw or circular/table saw with jig, I’d really recommend you not bother with this. It’s a good kit and the hardware is fine but there were also errors in the measurements (major) for the kick plate (82” indicated in one spot and 84 7/8”) and also some naming errors like BH was supposed to be BF and vice versa. Overall, if you have equipment, this is a $350 in wood type project (and more for the tools you buy) that will take 3 days of time.

Really fabulous kit and instructions! This was the first piece of furniture we have ever made, but we are DIYers so we have experience with lots of other home improvement work. The instructions for this kit are superb! The instruction book lays out all materials you need to purchase and outlines every single cut. I recommend buying high quality plywood from a wood supplier (not from a big box home improvement store) and take your time with the edging and be sure to stain or paint everything prior to putting together. We had a few questions and sent a couple of emails to the company and they promptly replied. Highly recommend this kit to anyone wanting to make a Murphy bed themselves. If we had bought a kit of this quality, we would have spent $5-6k easily. The materials including the price of the kit were only about $900. Highly recommend!

The assembly of the kit was fairly straight forward. It was more difficult than I thought but I got through it. I am 87 years old and I was sick during the assembly, so I lost a couple weeks.

This murphy bed has been the best addition to our home. However, the assembly is intense. It took several hours over the course of several days to complete. The instructions are very thorough. All we had to do was purchase the lumber and pulls on the front. I love that I can use this room as a nursery and guest room. I recommend measuring your mattress ahead of time. The recommended mattress height is strict- no variance in height. It’s sturdy and does take a good bit of strength to pull down.
