Dex 4 Glucose Tablets, Raspberry - 50 Count

Please read below for the review of the Dex 4 Glucose Tablets - 50 count.***As a person with diabetes (PWD) I know first-hand how awful low blood glucose can be. I'm lucky, however, since I am paired with a great technology called a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM), which tracks my blood glucose in near real-time and alerts me if I have too high of blood glucose or too low. Often times, PWD develop a condition called "hypo unaware"; this is when your body and mind do not recognize when you are having low blood glucose and sometimes it'll go untreated and you might slip into a coma, have a seizure, etc. A person with diabetes needs to have something fast-acting such as glucose tabs or gel in order to get their blood glucose levels back up to an acceptable range. This is where products like Dex4 Glucose tabs come in.First off, since being diagnoses with Type 1 in 2005, I've been well aware of the Dex4 brand. My endocrinologists office usually carries this brand and will give out samples of this if you're running low on supplies. Since obtaining the new CGM technology I'm getting tighter control, which sometimes leads to low glucose episodes (these episodes can happen without a CGM so it's very important to check your blood sugar multiple times a day).Each glucose tablet is 4g of sugar that will help raise blood glucose levels (by how much is up to your body and how it processes the tablets). Sometimes if I am around 70 blood glucose I will take approximately 16g of these tablets (4 tablets) and track my blood glucose to make sure it's not going too high. Some people can do around 8g (2 tablets) and be fine. I find the 4g increments to be helpful if you just need 1 or 2 tablets to get your blood glucose to an acceptable range.The taste of these glucose tablets, in my opinion, taste a little better than store bought brands and especially the glucose gel flavors; I just can't get into the gel ones for some reason so my low blood glucose solutions are the Dex4 glucose tablets and possibly a small box of juice (15g sugars). Both of these products help me maintain acceptable blood glucose levels so that I can be alive to see tomorrow.Overall, this is a great product at an impressive value; I use Amazon's Subscribe & Save program with these since I will always be using them until they cure Type 1 Diabetes (a bunch of PWD are gonna roll their eyes at this one, including me, because we've been promised a cure for so long). Anyway, these Dex4 tabs help me and other PWD immensely and I would recommend this brand highly.

I had been purchasing Reli-On Glucose tablets for several years. They work well enough, good flavors, same carbs as other brands. No reason to ever switch I thought. I found these Dex 4 glucose tablets a couple weeks back while trolling Amazon. They are quite a bit less in price than Reli-On brand. Same flavor. 4 carbs per tablet like almost every brand.Personally I recommend them. My type 1 diabetes is entering an 'unstable period' as I get older. For the last few months I have had very low (30's and 40's) blood sugar and it comes on faster than at any time in my 43 year diabetic history. I have these tablets, a liwuid version and believe it or not my doctor recommended tubes of frosting like you decorate cakes with because it's easier to just put in your pocket and go. I've ended up in the ER the lat three times I've had lows because for the first time in my diabetic career I have lost consciousness three times in the last 6 weeks after going 58 years of my life NOT losing it. This change in events has got me a little freaked out so these tablets give me peace of mind and a quick, convenient start in pushing my blood sugar back up.

I bought these because I was trying to lose weight and when my blood sugar gets low I feel nauseous and light-headed so limiting my food intake is very difficult. When I take these I can feel a boost of energy within minutes and my hunger and low blood sugar symptoms go away for 30-45 minutes. It's usually enough to get me through a workout or to my next meal without snaking. They also taste great. I'm happy to say I was able to lose 22lbs and hit my target weight. My body has now adjusted to my lower calorie intake and I do not get the low blood sugar symptoms as often or as severe as before. I would definitely recommend these!

I am a Type 1 diabetic that hated carrying anything for lows except when on long trips, but these have definitely changed my mind. I started using Dex a few months ago, and really think they are a step forward in my self-care. Instead of overeating when I get lows, particularly when occurring overnight, I can easily calculate the needed number of tablets to correct my glucose. Granted, I am lucky that 15 glucose calories (about 4 gram carbohydrate) equals 15 mg/dl, so using Dex I can raise my blood sugar in very measured doses. As an example 4 tablets = 60 calories glucose = 60 mg/dl. Also, although it seems expensive, they are cheaper than off-the-shelf items like juice and Clif bars.

There are much cheaper alternatives

I am not diabetic but do get hypoglycemic from time to time; when I do I just pop one of this tablets in my mouth and my sugar levels bounce back to normal right away. This is the only product if it's kind that works for me and it tastes great. To bad I can't find it on any pharmacy any more.

As a diabetic, I keep these on hand for when my blood sugar goes low. One or two tablets will bring my meter reading back in the normal reading in ten to fifteen minutes. I don't go anywhere without some of these in my purse.

As someone with hypoglycemia I need these tablets on a regular basis. I put them into a purse-size holder to carry with me always. (3 things I always remember to transfer from purse-to-purse: wallet, makeup bag, and the glucose tablets.) Good-tasting and convenient; what more could I ask?
