The Original Heavy Duty Steel Hidden Mantel Bracket (70)

I used this mounting bracket to install a 10" x 10" x 6 ft re-purposed barn timber. The estimated weight was 160 lbs and the bracket is rated for 200 lbs. Even with the mantle poised on the end of the rods during installation the bracket remained firm with no signs of fatigue or strain. There are plenty of countersunk screw provisions to accommodate stud locations (I added additional blockers just for good measure). It comes with directions on drilling the mantle holes but don't underestimate the difficulty of drilling five 7" deep holes that are straight! My auger bit proved a poor choice and settled on a 1.25 diameter spade bit (larger than the 1.125 diameter suggested). Overall I highly recommend this bracket!

My contractor said it is a bit of a pain to line up the exact hole in my mantle with these metal prongs but once he did, it is amazingly strong. I would recommend and buy again, if needed. Just make sure you have the right tools for the job.
