It's a great, happy, uplifting musical with great music, singing and dancing, and presents good values of acceptance of all, and one's self. All of that I loved. I came away from watching it feeling happy. But, if it wasn't glorifying PT Barnum and instead told a similar story with a fictional character, it would have been better. Instead most people and children who don't know the actual history and take this as truth, come away thinking PT Barnum was a great man, and the life of the circus was great and why don't Little People today want to be in the circus? In days when people of difference, such as Little People are working hard to be accepted as anyone, and removing the old stereotypes that Little People can only be in circuses or entertainment, it presents a misleading understanding of people of difference. I personally know of people who are little, while holding respectable jobs as any one else, have been asked if they want to join the circus, by children who have recently seen this film. That can be confusing in a world where people of difference are still struggling to be accepted as anyone else. As one person suggested, would it be similar if a musical was made about the "Greatest Conman" perhaps of leaders of a Mafia family, showing only their financial success, tight family values, but not the darker side of their lives? It's a fine line to walk. Great entertainment, but at the risk of glorifying a person who while successful in what he did, did so at the expense and exploitation of others.
