I don't use this for making compost, but have used it for many years for mixing fertilizers and potting mixes. This design works much better than say a cement mixer, because with a cement mixer the fine particles settle to the bottom. With the ComposTumbler all ingredients stay on the level and mix well. This large model is also easy to motorize with a couple of pulleys. It will mix 200-400 lbs of fertilizer at a time, or 100 gallons of potting media.Cons: When used for compost, unless the drum is turned regularly, the galvanized steel drum will rust through when left with wet and corrosive materials inside. So store it dry or turn it regularly.
