In the business times of yesteryear, many did not believe that empathy and understanding mixed well with sound business decisions. However, with the more recent breed of entrepreneurs, many have increasingly recognized that successful and long-lasting relationships depend on using both empathy and understanding to build a solid foundation. The master of negotiation and Celebrity Expert(R) in this book, Chris Voss, reminds us that entrepreneurs want lasting relationships that build trust and clientele. He questions if anyone associates empathy with enterprise and entrepreneurism, and states that the qualities of trust and lasting relationships come out of understanding and respect for each other. In short, as stated by Brené Brown, "Empathy fuels connection." To learn more about negotiation and how the Celebrity Experts(R) herein have improved their negotiating skills, it would be beneficial to read about their accomplishments. They have honed their skills and can be great mentors. They will tell you what worked for them and what did not - saving you time, energy and cost of 'reinventing the wheel' - the path to success - in negotiating. Review: Eye-opening perspectives on self empowerment at work - Great overview with so many diverse and helpful perspectives on ways to be assertive and hold your boundaries in work while also being kind and empathic. It is a tough balance to achieve, and so inspiring to read tactical and personal stories from the many different authors in this book. Review: Invaluable skills - I purchased this book for my dealers team to read. It teaches skills that are valuable in dealers negotiation.

Very misleading as to authorship
I bought this as I loved and use the items in Chris Voss's "Never Split the Difference" which is a game changer book. I liked it so much I wanted to buy anything else that he wrote. I found this and purchased it too quickly. Chriss Voss is one of over 20 "authors" of this and they each get a few pages to tell their perspective on using empathy. The cover of the book lists him as the "author" and then a throwaway line that there are other authors as well (bogus). Chris's chapter is pretty short and really a recitation of items he stated in Never Split the Difference. I am disappointed he'd put his name on this in the way that he did. I actually think less of him now, he just got a check to let them use his name and likeness and have 20 other folks write their personal story/experience. There are almost too many other perspectives in the book, all of which don't really drill down into helpful specifics. All the 5 star reviews are not of the book, they are just positive reviews of Chris Voss and his media machine, the book is not worth the money they are charging.

Very good

Very little Chris Voss in this book.
No disrespect to the contributors of this book, (the book is primarily a collection of essays from other business leaders) but it’s not made clear to purchasers that this book contains very little content from Chris Voss himself. And the very short contribution from Mr Voss will not be new to those who study his method. It’s more like a very broad overview. (It’s only a few pages long.) It’s not the content of the book that’s a problem per se. (Though much of the content I personally haven’t found particularly revelatory. I’m sure others may find the opposite is true, however.) The issue is that it’s not marketed clearly nor accurately. Even the cover (the contributor aspect/notation re the book’s content appears in tiny print below Mr. Voss’ name) and inner leaf don’t make the content clear. They’re misleading. Frustrating because Mr Voss has built a great deal of trust with those who have purchased his books, listened to podcasts, and watched his Masterclass. And what he shares directly is edifying and valuable. But it would not be inaccurate to say that this book feels like a bait and switch.

Title misleading, contents disappointing.
Deeply disappointing. Basically assays by 30 different people + their 30 CVs. Very little substance. Cannot believe Chris Voss put his name on this.

Misleading
Chris Voss. I loved your Split the Difference book and a book by you on Empathy excites me. When it arrived I was really disappointed and a little angry. Around 6 pages from you and the rest from unknown (to me) authors. Please make it clear this isn’t by you as this is misleading. Not even ‘Edited by’ or ‘Compiled by’. 🙁

Extremely disappointing
This is as extremely disappointing as his previous book is extremely brilliant. I can’t believe he’s put his name to this work. Shame. Keep returning to it in the hope they’ll be something worth reading. Keep putting it down frustrated at its emptiness.
