Question 2

What is the best way to cover and protect the terminals?

Accepted Answer

There are no terminals in the traditional sense.  They are threaded inserts that are lower than the level of the battery top.  The only exposed part is the screw heads that fasten your cable connectors to the battery.  If you put the battery in some kind of battery box, there should be no issues.

Can this be used as a replacement for the 12 volt battery (for starting and accessories) on a first generation nissan leaf?

Accepted Answer

Yes it can, it only takes 185 watts of power to switch on the main pack and it take over the 12v bus. There are decades of documentation of many people using LiFePO4 12v 20ah batteries to do this on many generations of Leaf. This battery is rated nominal for 256 watts, so it can handle it. The only issue is the wiring adaption, you'll need someone knowledgeable to do it correctly. If you live in an extreme cold area, you might not want to do this though, that's the caution.

How can i tell when my eci power 5ah is charged?  the charger i bought doesn't ever get to the fully charged status light. will batt voltage indicate?

This is a common issue with a Lithium Foe charger unless it was specifically designed for that battery with an indicator. There it would be best to charge it only when supervised and take reading with a volt meter. Typically they read 14.7 fully charged otherwise one can purchased their designed charger at a much higher expense.
