ObsidianWire Custom 4-Way for Tele® Solder-Less Wiring Harness

The buttons need to be pushed all the way down, and I was suffering an attack of arthritis in my left thumb joint when I installed the harness. So it took about the same time as soldering would’ve, for me, this time. Still, the ease of installation is well worth the price, and next time I want to swap pickups, it’ll be much easier. If you’re a weekend tone chaser like me, setup and takedown of your soldering equipment almost isn’t worth the trouble, and if you have any dislike for the fumes, Obsidian Wire makes a Telecaster even easier to modify. I did have to use a rounded wood file for two minor adjustments to the harness cavity lip, to allow clearance for the potentiometers. As it’s under the control plate, cosmetically that’s a nothing burger. It’s a nonFender body, so that’s to be expected. The tone? There’s a volume jump on the series position (also to be expected) and do I detect an out of phaseness in positions 2 and 4 or is that just the nature of the cap? Did I get some wires switched? Whichever, I’m well pleased with it, and it will be mighty easy to tinker with in the future.

I put this in an offset telecaster with fender twisted telecaster pickups. Ive previously soldered 3 guitar harnesses and this product is a game changer! Connected in 15 minutes. No shorts or hums. Works perfectly and sounds great. The only criticism I had was that the instructions could be a little more descriptive, but theres not a whole lot of room for error.

This was installed in a custom “T” style guitar and was an easy way to wire a guitar after a little research (that should have been included in the box). I used a SD - Jazz and JB pickup set and they sound pretty good. Plenty of crunch and nice clean tone also. I love it! Something that should be noted is I had to lengthen the slot the pickup selector switch goes in and when switched to the rear position, it almost touches the volume knob. Not an issue for me though

I purchased this wiring harness to make installing lambert one pickups into my American deluxe telecaster easier. I am not good at soldering, so I was looking at alternatives. The installation was very simple and the directions were easy to follow. Another selling point is if I ever sell my telecaster, I can take the expensive pickups out and put the stock pickups back in without any soldering. I highly recommend.

Glad I did it! No worrying about overheating pots during soldering! Installed in 3 minutes!

The pots rotate way too easy. so much so that they tend change settings on their own. The tone pot feels gritty. The photos show CTS pots

Overall it’s a quality product any easy to install as long as you cut the wire insulation as shown in the instructions. The product picture shows CTS pots but mine were not. The pot shafts had to much play and could move side to side. The pots were also to easy to turn and don’t always stay in place. I contacted the seller about a replacement and was told to return the product but that was no longer offered on this sale, jokes on me.

I am very happy with this Custom 4-way control. I bought a Fender TwistedTele pick up and the installation was quick and straightforward. The reason I got the Fender Twisted Tele pick up was because i wanted to avoid any soldering as I don’t have any experience with it. All in all I am pleased with the choices I made!:)

This is the 4th to unit that I have purchased. Easy installation and they're excellent quality.

used as part of a pot and pup upgrade for a Squier Tele. the moment you open it the quality is obvious. fit easily in the hole but needed to alter the screwholes in the pickguard so I just opted to get a new one to fit a standard fender and fit perfectly. what a great wire connection system. (note this also includes a new input so make sure you either can get the nut off your old one or buy a new plate-- I had to) I didn't know (missed it when I bought it) about the 4 way switch and was a little mystified "why?" and once I read up on it, well that got my attention....... and when I USE it (put in fender Tex-Mex pups) oh my goodness. the sound on that 4th setting. a whole new dimension to the guitar. buy with confidence.. and excitement. a great product

I used this in my 2009 road worn telecaster. It works perfectly and was super easy to install.

Pros: another tone option for the tele, high quality feeling product, clear instruction for installation Cons: it literally took longer for me to complete assembling compared to traditional soldering method, the reason is that the slots are way too tight and small, and it is extremely hard when using 4-conductor pickups as the soft wires won't easily fit into the slots. I feel like they could have made this better. It's a quick assembly if using 2-wire traditional pickups because the wires are hard enough for you to stuff into the slot, but again, you will definitely have a hard time if you are using pickups with 4 soft thin wires.

Awesome product, will be putting these (various models) into a few of my instruments. Great product and comes as advertised. Installs in minutes if you know what you are doing.
