Customer service like that is hard to come by so I have adjusted my rating accordingly.Original Review:After trying to be cheap (and getting placemats that weren't worth the postage to send them back) I went ahead and bit the bullet on this leather set. They arrived somewhat dirty (see photos) and they are not the rectangle shape that I ordered, but after cleaning them up I decided to keep them anyway. COVID has changed things, including my perspective on what is worth getting worked up over. Had they been clean and rectangular as shown, they would be 5 stars in my book. Hopefully, mine was an abnormal experience.

After going through several sets of the cork-backed hardboard placemats (Pimpernel brand, for example), I decided we needed something more durable that would (a) protect the table from warm dinner plates; (b) survive being shoved into a drawer 3 times a day; and (c) be easily cleaned. Bonus points for good looking with simple/modern style. These have a really nice "hand" (feel and weight), and the dark brown color looks great on our natural cherry table. More to the point, they are *flat* so dishes and bowls don't "rock" on them like they do with other types of (usually synthetic) leather-like placemats. So far they have cleaned up easily with a damp cloth. They came packaged in a natural cotton sleeve. They have the typical odor that I associate with freshly tanned leather (old New England, anyone?), but it is faint, I expect it to fade quickly, you have to put your nose right up to it to get that scent, and in any case I like it. The coasters are equally gorgeous, but don't have the decorative stitching along the edge. Very happy with these. I think they'd make a nice wedding gift or housewarming gift. Worth the price.

Simple to assemble and very sturdy. The cloth storage bag on side of table is sturdy--great place to store folders to keep tabletop clear.
