The Thread Detective is a precise and easy-to-use thread identifier for both nuts and bolts, consisting of gliding gauges conveniently assembled onto a wire lanyard. It is especially well suited for distinguishing between similar inch and metric threads. Our unique Thread Identifiers (aka thread checkers) are available in Metric, English Standard, and a combo of Metric and English Standard. For your convenience we provide extra-long wire rope for those hard to reach places, as well as loops on each end for convenient hanging. Inch Thread Identifiers contain nut and bolt sizes of 1-64, 1-72, 2-56, 2-64, 3-48, 3-56, 4-40, 4-48, 5-40Metric Thread Identifiers contain nut and bolt sizes of M1.2x0.25, M1.6x0.35, M1.6x0.20, M1.8x0.35, M2.0x0.40, M2.0x0.40, M2.0x0.25, M2.5x0.45, M2.5x0.35, M3.0x0.50, M3.0x0.35, M3.5x0.60, M3.5x0.35. Review: Good deal; good tool - I've had some small threaded parts that I've been scratching my head over for a month, when I finally decided to spring for these "thread identifiers". Glad I did; they solved my problem in less than 30 seconds. You can find larger sized thread testers all over the place, but these tiny sizes are hard to come by. Couple of points: * The female testers don't spin around, as some users have said. That means if you need to test the threads on a stationary rod, you will have to rotate the whole tester chain to get it threaded on the rod. But I wasn't expecting anything else, and it's not a big deal -- the whole chain is barely a foot long and very easy to manipulate. * Some reviewers have claimed that the size labels on the testers are adhesive stickers. Well, I don't know what they might have gotten, but the set I received has the numbers laser-etched into the metal: easy to read and look like they'll last a good long time. Overall, I'm glad I bought these, and would buy again if needed. Review: For Small sizes machine screws - Most of the thread checkers skip on the really small size. This one covers for the missing sizes. Looks well made. I also have the middle sizes thread checkers from the same brand and it is serving me well.

Got a Loose Screw?
I bought these to sort a couple bagfuls of bolts and nuts that accumulated over the years. I also use them to determine what the thread size/pitch is for every odd repair project that comes along that I can't eyeball. If you work with hardware, get a set of these. They are indispensable when it comes to accurately determining what a bolt/nut is, without going back and forth to your supplies multiple times. Highly recommended. Make sure you get a small and large sized set and don't loan them out, they will never come back!

Saved much time and $ in my shop!
So many times I run to Home Depot for an odd screw or bolt just because I could not find what I wanted, or was unsure of metric versus SAE. These helped me organize my hardware so now I can quickly get to what I need. Bought the larger versions too.

Works good - covers most of the typical collection selection.
Using it to sort a 5 gallon bucket of nuts and bolts I have accumulated over the years. Doesn’t have every size in the world, of course, but hitting about 90% of what I have. I went ahead and bought another similar one of the much smaller sizes to cover most of that. Sizes are stamped and filled with paint to help visibility, but my oily hands have started to wear the paint out of the stamps - Will have to wipe-fill the paint back in at some point.

Handy to have whe trying to identify thread pitch on small fasteners.
It would be handy if you could disassemble the coupons from the cable. It can be a little awkward to thread the entire assembly on a stud or into a hole. Of corse that would mean many small pieces to keep track of, bu I’m willing to take that chance.

Very nice for sizing small bolts and nuts
Easy to read etched in size on every piece. Very easy to use. Has down to the smallest sizes on this set. This set along with the medium size that goes to 1/2 inch are a great pair to have in any tool box.
