Ultimate Spider-Man by Jonathan Hickman Vol. 1: Married With Children

A truly superb beginning to the new Ultimate Spider-Man universe. It really is great. Gorgeous art, and a solid story. There's a reason this outsold the regualt Amazing Spider-Man run.

Best Spider-Man series I've read in a while. Definitely requires reading 'Ultimate Invasion' beforehand to understand context of what has happened before in this world. Other that that one issue, book contains a great start to this series that made me eager to keep reading, and the artwork is nice and consistent. Overall, an interesting new take on the classic Spider-Man that feels fresh and unique.

Going into this series, I really wasn’t sure what to expect. After finishing this first volume though, I’m definitely impressed. This new ultimate comic initiative is definitely similar to what DC is doing right now. Take a beloved character and turn everything you know about them on it’s head. It has worked extremely well for Absolute Batman (at least in my opinion) and it’s looking like Spider-man will be joining it in terms of my favourite comic runs. Of the comics story, I genuinely like that Peter has a family, not just aunt May. I understand that people like to see a depressed Spider-Man try to make ends meet and pay his RENT…but I really enjoyed seeing Peter happy for a change. The artwork is amazingly detailed and the colour use is really pleasant to look at. This volume is mostly setup for the world writer Jonathan Hickman envisions, how Peter becomes Spider-Man via Tony Stark and Harry becoming the green goblin (rather than his father). Speaking of goblin, I’m not a massive fan of his design. I don’t really like how the helmet looks, I’m hoping he upgrades it as I find it difficult to look at. I need to know more about Tony, as I’m wondering if he really is a terrorist or is there more to it. I really enjoyed this volume and I can recommend it to any fan of Spider-Man.

As someone who is grown with spiders stories, this is exactly the type of story I like to read. The ultimate universe rules and kicks ass. It was a great read

I can’t get enough of this series, it pains me that issues are released monthly. I bought this compendium to get caught up on the series and I devoured it, leading to a purchase of the second and a trip to the comic book store to buy the other issues that will be part of release #3 in September. A cracking retelling and a definite page turner.

The comic arrived in good condition, though I expected extra protection. It doesn't have a strong odor (which is great) and doesn't interfere with reading.

Era da anni che gli appassionati dell’Uomo Ragno aspettavano una storia così, dove Peter non è solo un uomo miserabile, ha una famiglia, sa già perfettamente quali sono le sue grandi responsabilità, gli manca solo un grande potere. Stupendo.
