I tried the rolling pin without pre-oiling, and everything stuck to it. Then, I slathered it in coconut oil and left it in a warm (but OFF) oven. Next time I used it, a bit of flour stuck to only one tiny spot. (Don't overdo it with the flour; there should be a fine powdering. If there are big patches it does get stuck in the groves) I used it on a pie crust and the pattern stayed visible after the pie baked. I am very pleased.

Great gift

I bought this embossed roller to make imprinted shortbread cookies. I was expecting the dough to stick to the roller and was prepared for a bit of a mess, but with just a little bit of flour, the designs came out cleanly in the dough. I tried 2 different recipes, one traditional shortbread and one specifically for embossed rollers. The cookies with the traditional recipe lost the definition of the design when baked. The recipe specifically for use with an embossed roller kept the design and came out quite nicely. I will be making more cookies with this roller.

Bought this to make Speculous cookies. It's not what is traditionally used (individual wood moulds are used). It worked okay. The designs are quite intricate and must be dusted well with flour so that the dough doesn't stick. I could only roll it once around without having to re-dust with flour as it started to stick. The impression is deep enough, but if you don't refrigerate the cookies for about 20 - 30 minutes before putting them in the oven (after they have been stamped) the impression will mostly "melt" away. After rolling the design, each cookie needs to be cut out individually, so making cookies this way is a bit labor-intensive. Overall the quality of the product seems pretty good and I'm happy with my purchase.
