Celebration

Despite being signed to a prestigious record label, Celebration have had virtually no promotion whatsoever and hardly anyone knows about them. It's a shame, because this is a thrilling debut album whose freshness stands out like a beacon in a music industry preoccupied with trends, scenes and fashions.A female-fronted three-piece with no bassist, comparisons to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are inevitable, but Celebration are a completely different kettle of fish. With the Hammond organ as the main instrument, Celebration's songs have an air of twisted, seedy cabaret about them, coupled with a jagged edge which makes the songs seem both alluring and threatening.Each bandmember is a virtuoso. David Bergander simply doesn't think like other drummers do. Sean Antanaitis switches seamlessly between guitar and organ, often mid-song. Katrina Ford is a vocalist of considerable prowess and confidence. She sounds like a drunken, disturbed Shirley Bassey. Her menacing voice is complimented perfectly by frequent lyrical images of wild animals, predators and prey.Celebration are a band to be passionate about. Their debut album is riveting. I've owned this for six months and it's not been out of my CD player, I have no idea what the CD looks like. If you're bored of being force fed the same old indie-disco post-punk franz-ferdinand type bands, then buy this album and breathe a sigh of relief.

Highly reccomended album, reminds me of the good old 4AD days.Its all a bit Siouxsie banshee-esque wailings meets The Doors on crack. Very emotive; swirling rhythmic organs, pounding drum breaks and euphoric in its musical troughs and peaks, and exceedingly catchy to boot! The songs just bury themselves in yer brain and make ya wanna kick out and wail along with them...Overlistened to it at first then put it down for a while, come back to it again and i'm again hooked, which made me bother to write this review as i usually so can't be arsed no matter how good something is ;)Standout tracks? all of them will at some point etch themselves into a concentrated loop that eternally repeats in your mind, proving far more entertaining than whatever you're supposed to be doing at the time. If i have to pick three though, it'd be Holiday, War and China but i'll probably change my mind tomorrow.
