I live in an old house built in the forties that has a lot of lathe and plaster walls making dead spots prevalent all over the house. When you’re near the modem/router we get crazy good speed but as soon as you go down a hallway you start to drop off precipitously. I bought one of these range extenders as a shot in the dark to extend our wifi coverage to the backyard for these nice Ohio summer days on the iPad watching our Guardians play. The range extender worked so well I bought another one to further our household coverage! The range extender is slightly on the larger side as compared to an older extender I bought years ago that really didn’t work. This one also has two antennae that stick out and swivel up and down. I guess this is a nice feature to have but I wish there was a way to tell how your signal strength was being affected by a slight movement up or down of the antennae. Otherwise I just leave one pointed straight up and the other slightly angled at about 45º in the hopes this works best. Normally I’m opposed to downloading yet another app with the newest piece of hardware I buy but I did download Tether, the associated app with this device. To my surprise the app is extremely intuitive and well laid out and very user friendly. The app makes setting up the device extremely easy. Of note, when I did purchase the second extender it was just as easy to add the second one to the app. The app is a big reason I purchased another of the same extender rather than try another brand. Super easy to use and keeps things nice and tidy on the phone. The hardware/software combination has a ton of settings that I’m sure more advanced users will revel in but I was able to set up the extenders in almost no time flat and I was up and running. My main modem/router has the capability to enable OneMesh software as does these extenders but I chose not to enable this feature. A big problem I have with the OneMesh feature is that all the smart devices in the house (of which we have about 40) all seem to float on different connection points and if the phone isn’t on the same connection point the devices often don’t work correctly. I’ve had no issues with connection, speed, or signal strength since purchasing these two range extenders for the house. I am truly pleased with this TP-Link range extender product and couldn’t be happier with the results. I can now freely go about the house and keep a solid connection and I can sit about 100’ from the house and stream content on my iPad in the backyard now. Couldn’t recommend more highly. Purchased to provide coverage for a large multi-room single level community clubhouse. It does an excellent job acting as a wifi extender providing wifi at 2.4 and 5.0 ghz with a range easily of 50-70 yards through concrete and wood stud walls. The signal is strong and transmission rate is excellent. The manufacturer states it can be used as a wifi mesh "node" but I did not confirm due to a router setting issue on our end. It is easily set up with the free Tether app on my phone with clear, precise instructions. As for design, it blends in well and its indicator lights are clear and distinct. We are very happy with its performance and build.

In my situation, which can’t be the only one, I wanted to extend my signal to another room in my shop. The shop is roughly 80x100 with steel walls deciding the sections. The problem is my main WiFi router wouldn’t get any signal going through the walls to the other room. Even though they were 20ft and 50ft away respectively. So I bought this to hardwire an Ethernet cable from my router to this extender to use the same network signal and essentially have a another WiFi emitting device in another room on the other side of a steel wall to get signal. The problem that you must be aware of is there is absolutely no way to set this up in access point mode UNTIL you have wirelessly connected to your network. I figured I could go into the initial setup and change modes immediately before going through the entire setup process, a process that ONLY works if your extender can connect to your wireless router, connect to it, finalize its settings, reboot to save them, then go back into your setup and finally be able to change modes to “access point” mode. So first point of contention, the device will NOT finish setup (errors and times out) if you have an active ethernet cable attached to it. In my case, that was the signal from one of the lan ports of my router plugging into this extender (remember, no signal through steel walls). So easy enough fix. Simple set the device up next to your existing router, then after finalizing setup, rebooting, changing to AP mode, moving router to its new location, and plugging in Ethernet cable, it works fine. My advice would be to have your team update the drivers / setup to immediately ask, as in the 1st step, the mode someone will be using this device. That would save tons of time and headache as I’m sure many people would use this device hardwired from a long lan port run off their router like I am. After that, seems to work fine and exactly what I was looking for. Just be aware the install instructions don’t exactly give you this info. And above all, if you plan on using the Ethernet port on the extender, DO NOT plug anything into it until AFTER your setup has completed and finalized. I had to do 2 hard resets of the device before I figured out that was what was stopping me from the initial setup as well. Just an FYI….

I am using this range extender as a wireless EasyMesh satellite node with a TP-Link BE230 Main router. In that context, it does what it is advertised to do and is easy to setup. Understand that when you are using it this way, your device traffic travels wirelessly to/from device to node to main router which doubles the traffic on the RF and lowers the throughput. And for most situations that is fast enough. I routinely stream video through this extender with no issues. I also have a TP-Link AX21 router that is acting as a satellite node in my mesh network. Except it has a wired back haul connection to the main router LAN. Which means when connected to this node, your traffic goes via WI-FI to the node, but wired after that to the main router and the Internet. Running speed tests, the difference between using the two satellite nodes in my system is significant. So, wouldn't you think, that given the Ethernet jack on the RE615X would be capable of doing wired back haul using that port? That is what I was hoping for, but was disappointed to discover that it can't do that, at least with the current firmware. it is an opportunity missed and for that, it gets dinged a star. One more comment which marginally off topic here. Why not just buy an AX21 or similar and use that as satellite node instead of buying a RE615X? In many ways, as I said the router works better because it supports wired back haul. But, TP-Link's lame firmware in the AX21 (and I read other variants of their routers) when configured in range extender mode will not let you adjust ANY settings. In fact, it won't even let you log into the router. You have to reset the router to get it out of that mode. At least the RE615X allow you log into it and tweak settings (e.g., giving it a static IP address). And finally, as another consideration in buying an RE615X, the idea that your device will seamlessly change access points when walking around is a bit oversold. That is probably true with most mesh systems (not just EasyMesh) because I think that it is the device that has to decide to switch, not the mesh node. Through testing with WI-FI analyzers, I have pretty much proven that my devices tenaciously hang on to the connection they have rather than switching nodes, even if there is a closer one with a much stronger signal.

i needed to extend our wifi in our house. i had tried another brand which only worked for a couple of months. this extender has been fantastic. the signal is clear, fast, and strong. our house is 2900 sq feet and we haven't had any problems. it works well with our alexa and blink systems. checking our signal speeds has consistently showed strong output from this device.

Due to the size and layout of my home, there was no way to get a centrally placed router to reach certain areas with a strong enough signal. I decided to buy this extender to help fix these issues and it has worked out quite well. Now, most devices that had weaker signals have had better connectivity, especially the many smart devices that I have outside of my main living space (basement, video doorbell, external cameras, etc.). Installation was very easy, and setup with my TP-Link router was simple. The only surprise really came from the size of the product - it is much bigger than I thought it would be. I had space for it, but if you want this to be inconspicuous, that is going to be a tough one. This doesn't detract from the value, as I have it in a location that is not very visible, but if form factor matters to you, take close note of the size (including antennas) before buying.

Ordered to extend the AT&T Wi-Fi Gateway BGW320-500. I was unable to get the extender to work with this model Gateway. It would connect on one of the two bands according to the app/light, but would not extend. I think it is a compatibility issue. I returned the product and received a refund.

Funciona muy bien y en mi caso no sé como un access point para conectar mediante un cable internet y luego de ahí generar un access point para que emitiera la señal a un cuarto muy lejano y funciona súper bien ya que da la misma velocidad que en el origen del router y por ser tipo 6 es muy estable y tiene una altísima potencia. Muy recomendable por el precio y muy estable
