13 DVD Box DCI - Inspector Banks Season 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 BBC

Brilliant acting, and most importantly: sympathetic characters with excellent interplay of relationships. Fundamental to crime series is convincing police work, and it seemed pretty authentic to me. No gimmicks; convincing police superiors for once, DCI Banks is not a bundle of laughs (compared to Barnaby & Troy for example), but then hunting vicious criminals every day isn't really very funny. Gripping, human stories, but often pretty gruesome, but which murder is not gruesome? I have seen most crime series, but this stands up with "Line of Duty", "Blue Murder", "Inspector Lynley", "Dalziel and Pascoe" (though that was epically long). The acid test is that I could not wait to see the next episode. The Dutch version is very good value for money: just turn subtitles off and away you go ....

Anyone who has ever read the books will know how it will end. That which is most sought, will come to fruition as nought.DCI Banks id just a normal 'run of the mill' detective series; much like the usual dross on ITV, but then they decided to 'cut-away' to the last book at the end and there it acquires pathos/ If you like 'crime drama', then DCI Banks might be 'right up your street'. Just don't watch series five; it will break your heart!

Bought this for holiday viewing, and I confess I didn’t notice it was in Dutch until we opened it! After a panicky few minutes until we ascertained that it was in English with Dutch subtitles which we could turn off, all was fine. Tompkinson, Catz et al didn’t disappoint and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

People complain about this being a Dutch edition. OK, the packaging is mostly Dutch, but the discs are labelled clearly as to what episode is which. And the audio is all English, although some complain about the Dutch subtitles. Well, turn them off then! It appears that in Holland the default setting is to have the subtitles on, so in the disc menu at the beginning just select the third item down, and the right hand option of the two (I won't be spelling out the exact wording of the Dutch!). Hey presto, the subtitles disappear and you can just enjoy the English language audio. Simple! Because of this minor irritation before you watch each disc, I've deducted a star in my rating, but for value it really deserves five as it's about half the price of other complete sets. Buy now, while stocks last.....

never really watched this when it was on tv,so it was on my must watch sometime list,i thought it was enjoyable to watch and good value for money for over a weeks entertainment,

I loved every episode of DCI Banks. Extremely well written and at times I was on edge of my seat.Not to leave the seller out this arrived so quickly and well packed. I'd recommend both this item and the seller without hesitation.

I had already read his first twenty books when I bought these DVDs.The acting is good but the scenery views are disappointing not what you expect from the in the books descriptions.The screen writers in my opinion makes some serious changes to the characters in the story.Might this be the reason why the series was so short?

Nice British detective series, not without its flaws but will keep you engaged throughout.These discs have Dutch subtitles which can be turned off and since the spoken language is English the program can be enjoyed without any trouble.

I am on the last season and am extremely happy with the service and set as the sound has been good all the way through and I’ve had no problems with the discs.
