a product like this should be of sufficient quality to work without ...
The barrier arrived very timely and well packaged. The metal rods and end pieces seemed robust. The instructions were not well written but with some trial and error the barrier was assembled and ready to install. It seemed to fit well at first but then the clamps that hold the telescopic upright rods would not tighten to sustain sufficient tension and the barrier kept falling over. Several times it fell on my dog who was in the rear of the car, then allowing him to jump over and onto the back seat. I contacted the supplier to ask for suggestions on improving the performance. They suggested that the barrier was not suitable for my car and I should return for a full refund. The problem however is not in the barrier since it is adjustable but in the low quality hardware supplied. The supplier said they could not replace the clamps. With some ingenuity, drilling and installing a nut and bolt I am sure that I can prevent the slippage. However, a product like this should be of sufficient quality to work without this type of modification.

Worked great for my 90 lb. Shepherd
I purchased this for my Toyota matrix to keep my 90lb German shepherd in the rear of the car. Much to my surprise it works perfectly. I admit it took two adults to put it together, but after all was said and done it does the job. Not to sure how happy my fur baby is not being able to hang her head out the window, but it's a safety concern! I give it two thumbs up

Good product for the price
Product is easy to install, which it good because it does loosen over time and slip out of place. It does require a significant amount of pressure to stay in place so it works better if you have two people to install so one can expand the bar and one can tighten the Directions for assembly could be a little more clear but was able to figure out with a couple trial and error.

Not worth the money
6 out of 8 of the tube end piece are broken, causing the tubes to raddle and slide loosely. The metal has a deep gouge to the metal. The tightening twist mechanism doesn't work at all,no matter which direction I twist it. Finally, you can only spread the bars so far apart until it hits the entendre tightened causing large gaps in in my 2003 Lincolin navigator. Overall, Its like it was returned by someone or previously used. I'll keep it for now and invest in a nicer one later on.

Works OK, same unit as higher priced models.
The barrier as delivered didn't do well with staying in place, but I think something on the cups on the ends of the uprights would help... if you plan to leave it in place, sticky backed Velcro would work well. Since I'd be removing often I put springs in the legs to provide pressure to keep the unit in place... this involved drilling the legs and using a "roll pin" to locate the end of the spring... about $6 extra total. Works OK, but still slips from time to time. But... my dog doesn't try to push it down... just pouts that he cannot crawl into the front seat of my truck. So works well for my needs.

CHEAPLY MADE - YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR I GUESS!
We didn't have any reason to put this together, unfortunately, prior to the return period expiring. When we needed it, in order to transport the dogs to the vet, we attempted to put it together. As with so many things these days, it seems that quality control is no longer in existence - one of the 'screws' (actually not really a screw but threaded like a screw) wouldn't tighten. The bar just slipped up and down when it was tightened as much as possible, but if we tried to tighten it more it just 'popped' past that point and it was if we hadn't even tightened it at all. Very cheaply made. The whole thing is unusable because we can't put that side together and get it to stay where we need it to stay, so it was just a total waste of money.

Perfect
Love this product! My husband runs a team of security k9s, and though I love the fur balls, I dont love them right in my lap while I am driving. This was easy to install and fit right in our jeep no problem, I can also switch it over to my rogue easily. I gave one to my mom for christmas to keep her Great Dane in the back of her car and she lives it too. Will definetly buy more for my husband work vehicles. FYI, the security k9s did get mad and try to chew it up and tear it down but it prevailed perfectly.

Not a bad setup for the price
Not a bad setup for the price. The cups that sit against the floor and roof are slippery. Adhesive Velcro does the trick. Directions are pretty bad, but you can probably figure it out if you just try without them. The frame is decently solid, and has good adjustability to fit the width. I had pretty low expectations, but it works well enough for me.

More stress than the price is worth!
This item was utterly infuriating from the moment I opened the box. Imagine a box full of metal poles & bits of stuff, and a very unclear absolutely pants set of instructions. In the end I just put it together so it looked right. Fine, apart from the fact bits of it still slide all over the place & if your dog has even half a brain they will soon work this out. The next problem I encounter is that the back seats in my car are slightly reclined - well put them forward I can hear you saying. No, they are on a permenant recline, meaning this guard cannot actually be fitted to my car without either cutting off half the boot so my poor dog ends up squashed against the back window, or risking it being at such an angle it's probably going to fall on her head & cause brain damage. Although maybe that's what they're hoping so she won't work out that she can push the bars straight out her way...

No fue lo esperado
No puedo hacer que se sujete adecueadamente a techo/piso de la camioneta. Se ca con el mínimo empujón, y obviamente los perros lo empujan
