It is often necessary to protect components from being unnecessarily heated during BGA or PCB reworking. Especially when using an Infra-Red type rework machine, you can minimise radiation absorption by putting a layer of this highly reflective aluminium tape over the components. The adhesive backing will keep the tape firmly in place and reflect unwanted radiation to protect your peripheral components from being unnecessarily heated. Electrolytic capacitors may bulge when heated to above their rated working heat temperature, and by using this reflective tape, you will protect them from being heated unnecessarily. Always protect components from being reflowed in the vicinity of the BGA device when reflowing. It may save you a lot of time if the reflowed components were dislodged by mistake or even lost as a result of being blown off the PCB.
