Why no W terminal?

the stat is a heat pump stat   will adapt for other applications  
in a heat mode on a Carrier heat pump O/B is not powered and Y takes the place of W1or W{same terminal } G is powered to operate the fan W2 is electric heat The first stage of heat is the "Y" energized and heat from the outside air and compresses motor heat second stage heat is W2 , W2 is also powered in stand alone for emergency heat or electric only heat when temp gets extremely low and you don't get an advantage of heat from outside air

Does this work for a geothermal heating & air conditioner system

would need to know more about the requirements that your system this stat is 2 heat stages  first is heat pump heat  the second is heat pump heat and restive heat ,, single stage cool , our stats have been in operation on conventional heat pump air to air units for over a year with no problems,,

can the 2nd stage heat (emergency) be prevented from kicking in if set only to heat and not auxiliary?

You can set it to “slow” which limits it but does not prevent it from coming on all together. The only way I can think of locking out w2 with this thermostat would be to leave that wire disconnected.

My heat pump unit has 7 wires, red,blue,green,white,yellow, orange and brown. with a jumper for connecting r and rc. will this thermostat work for me?
