An awesome upgrade to your security
When I purchased this thermal hybrid camera, I wasn't expecting the best results. I mean, thermal has always been very expensive, so the price point seemed too good to be true. The item as received is just awesome though. I mean you do the occasional clicking as the sensor resets the thermal sensitivity. And it's using an older, narrower frame size instead of the wide format used in most of the newer security cameras. But you're getting a dual view system, with a standard night vision cam and a thermal cam, as two separate streams to your DVR. And you can manually set the thermal side to use a "Fusion" mode that overlays the temperature data on top of a monochrome copy of the standard video feed. It's much more viewable than standard low res thermal. For a standard walkway between buildings or a driveway, the thermal might not help much. But I'm using it in my half acre sized back yard to detect problem critters and people, with lots of deep shadows and evergreens. The thermal just makes it so much easier to figure out what's going on in this situation and has let me cut the sensitivity on the visible spectrum camera way down. I now have it set to only trigger visible spectrum recording if there's motion detected on thermal, which has reduced the total recorded video from around 14 hours per day to just 75 minutes today. Thermal also makes it much easer to review that footage, since I can see the hotspots clearly in that stream and know exactly where to look in the visual feed to see what's happening.
