There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves! Paperback – Picture Book, August 1, 2010

I really liked this book! I put it in my library and the students loved it. The kids loved the humor in it and it was great to read when the leaves were changing colors.

I love the repetition in this book. It’s an easy read. The students are able to catch on and join in the story easily. There are many enrichment activities you can do with this book. There’s a lots of art projects/ideas you can pull out of this book. I give a grade of A+. I would recommend to anyone.

Lucille Colandro has books for every occasion and season. Our family loves the funny books of cumulative tales. What will the little old lady swallow next? We always have fun making ridiculous predictions of what will follow in the story. We’ve collected about six of her stories so far and can’t wait to get our hands on more!

I have twin 6 year old girls. I recently read this to each of their 1st grade classes - all of the kids loved it. They had a good time trying to guess what the outcome would be from all of the things she was eating. I was first introduced to this take on "There was an old lady who" books when our girls were in Preschool. The teacher read "There was an old lady who swallowed some snow". Ultimately after swallowing a bunch of things, she hiccuped or sneezed - and out came a snow man. Was much better than the version I grew up with of "There was an old lady who swallowed a fly, perhaps she'll die". Terrible thought! I love this clever and fun filled way of showing sequence. I plan to eventually purchase all in the series. Love these books!

Excellent, funny book. Remember that is it a children's book, full of silly ideas and not to be taken literally. I used paper props of the various items she swallowed as I read the book. Each time I came to the word, my helper showed the students the item that was swallowed, building up to the end of the story. As the old lady started to sneeze, I took my time letting out the sneeze while my helper put the pieces together to show what would result in the sneeze: a scarecrow. The kids went ballistic when they saw the ending that my helper held up for them to view! (It was made to look exactly like the picture on the last page of the book.) This was quite an entertaining book. Makes an excellent fall/autumn book if you don't wish to emphasize Halloween.

My daughter loves these book series and i like buying these for her every change of season/holidays. But this time the delivery was super late. I ordered this for fall and received it just a few days ago. It's a fun book but the super delayed delivery really was a bummer.

At the beginning of November quite a few fall books went down on the price. This one was $1.57 and I ordered it, and it just came today January 25. But that is OK because I absolutely love this book. There is so many different versions of this type of book. I would honestly order them all! It is in very good shape and a full size paper back book.

In our Kindergarten class we have enjoyed several The old lady who swallowed a.....series..I hope my great niece loves it just as much!
