TA Today: A New Introduction to Transactional Analysis Review: Well-Written Presentation of a Classic and Practical Therapy - This was recommended by my therapist. TA is a practical and easy way to view your interactions with those around you and reveal the hidden source of your reactions to things. I found it to be a revelation and was able to start putting it into practice after reading just the first few chapters. For me, it was much better than getting photocopied CBT handouts. For the first time, something made sense. I was a bit skeptical at first, expecting a groovy 70s "I'm Okay, You're Okay" oversimplification, but the thinking behind it is really quite insightful. TA has matured into a classic approach and I did not find it dated at all. Language like Parent, Adult, and Child, plus other terms like Rackets and Strokes are easy to remember and the concepts behind them are readily understood. There's a lot of very sophisticated psychology baked into a deceptively simple system. It is true, however, that things get more complicated as you progress. The initial, simple labels are broken down into more nuanced concepts, such as Adapted Child, etc. It does require closer reading and a bit more thinking as you go. As a benchmark, I'm a retired lawyer and now write novels. I found some of it challenging, but not because the writing was dense or full of hard-to-understand jargon. Give the authors credit for a very well written book for the lay person. The system uses easily understood and memorable terms, many from everyday life. If it had not been somewhat challenging, I doubt it would have adequately dealt with something as complicated as the psychology of humans. There are little exercises to make you think about what makes you tick. They are well worth doing as you read. Review: Simple and beautiful - This is a great book that simplifies the TA concepts for the beginners. Easy read, it gave me the hope that I can learn TA. I beleive this is a good base before attending a TA 101 course.

Excellent Textbook on Transactional Analysis
This is an excellent book, suffering only from being dry and somewhat pedantic. It is really better than the many other Transactional Analysis books on the market. This book covers almost all of TA theory and practice. I only took away one star because of the textbooky dryness. For the non-professional, my favorite is still, Born To Win, by Muriel James and Dorothy Jongeward. Though written in the early 1970s, it has been updated, and remains extremely well done.
