I bought these for my husband right after Christmas and they developed a hole in the heel of one of them already?

I don’t know if you wash and dry, I tend only wash and hang to dry. It happen to me on another brand, learn my lesson. Something in the drying process degrades the socks.

Are these going to be tight on someone who wears size 12 shoes? Do they shrink much? Can they be dried on low in the dryer?

These socks should not be tight on your foot and will have very little shrinkage. The care instructions are: Machine wash COLD with like colors. Do Not Bleach - Tumble dry low, remove promptly. Do Not Iron - Do Not Dry Clean.

how well do the one size fit?

I usually wear 13 - 15 gold toe socks from Penneys, so they're not tight. These are a little snug around the ankles, but fit fine, sometimes I roll down the tops a bit.

Would they fit size 5-6? :D

I am afraid they would be a little too big. However, I believe Carhartt does make some other of their socks in the small or medium size. Keep looking. They are a quality sock, so good luck!
