Q: Can I program the timer to count down starting at 1 hr 45 minutes ?

Yes, you can set the countdown timer from one second to 10 hours.

Q: Does it have a backlight?

It does not have a back light. Otherwise its a very good stopwatch. The buttons are very responsive, unlike others I've used. It also has a nice feel in your hand when using.

Q: Can you have the timer start automatically when the countdown is done?

When the countdown is done, click on the stopwatch again and it will automatically go back to the count down time. Thus, you click once to start, click again when it finishes and click again to go back to the original time.

Q: How long does the battery last? There is no on/off switch button, so after just a few days, mine had run out of battery

I don't know how long it lasts. I got mine back at the end of November 2017 to keep time on our Polar Express train, and it is still running in March of 2018.
