Great value for a quality tool.
Sharpened some old knives like new. The sturdiness made it easy to use. Very safe not scary at all.I did a fair amount of research online and this brand was highly recommended and on amazon the price was great!

From Dull to Dazzling Asian Knife Users Rejoice! The Secret Weapon for Razor-Sharp Asian Knives
As a huge fan of Shun Cutlery knives, I was looking for a way to maintain their razor-sharpness at home between trips to the Shun factory sharpening service. Many sharpening methods can be risky, so I wanted a user-friendly sharpener that wouldn't damage my blades. After using the Chef'sChoice 463 Pronto Hone for two years, here's my honest review:Sharpening Made Easy:This sharpener is incredibly easy to use, especially for beginners. There's no need for downward pressure; instead, you simply guide the knife through the slots with gentle pulls. This approach helps prevent accidental damage to the blade.Effective for Asian Knives:The Chef'sChoice 463 Pronto Hone is designed for 15-degree angled knives, which is perfect for many Asian-style blades. I've found it effective at restoring sharpness and removing minimal material when used correctly. It's important to follow the light, pulling motion to avoid removing too much metal, which can weaken the knife over time.Keep Your Favorite Pocket Steak Knives Sharp:The Chef'sChoice 463 Pronto Hone can help maintain the sharpness of your steak knives. Just remember that steak knives often have a slightly different sharpening angle (around 17-20 degrees) than this sharpener (15 degrees). With proper technique, you can still achieve a good level of sharpness for everyday use.User-Friendly Design:The handle is comfortable to grip, and the rubber feet keep the sharpener secure on your countertop while you work. These small details make the sharpening process even smoother.Made in the USA:For those who value American-made products, it's worth noting that the Chef'sChoice 463 Pronto Hone is manufactured in the USA.Things to Keep in Mind:Technique Matters: As mentioned earlier, using the correct pulling motion is crucial to avoid damaging your knives. Take your time and follow the instructions carefully.May Not Be for All Knives: This sharpener is best suited for 15-degree angled knives. If you have a different style of knife, you might need a different sharpening system. German blades, sharpened at 20-22 degrees, offer a super-durable edge that tackles chopping and prep with ease. The trade-off? Slightly less precision for fancy slicing.Overall:The Chef'sChoice 463 Pronto Hone is a great option for anyone who wants a user-friendly and effective way to sharpen their Asian-style knives. The easy pull-through motion, design features, and American-made quality make it a solid choice. Just remember to use proper technique to avoid damaging your knives.

Sharp knives are very important in the kitchen!!
I purchased this "Chef'sChoice 463 Pronto Hone for 15-Degree Serrated and Straight Knives Diamond Abrasives Fast Sharpener". When you're prepping and cooking, a VERY sharp blade on ALL of your knives is MORE THAN ESSENTIAL, especially if you want to be able to work SAFELY AND QUICKLY!! Without a sharp blade, you're SERIOUSLY doing yourself a HUGE injustice!!I was in need of a sharpener and I saw it first on ATK, and I figured I'd try it. So glad that I did! I've been using it for almost 9 months now and I absolutely LOVE IT!! The KEY to sharp knives, is to LITTERALLY SHARPEN THEM AFTER/BEFORE EVERY USE!!! It's really easy to do, especially with this sharpener, you slide the knife through the #1 slot several times THEN you repeat it on the #2 slot THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIMES.....SUPER SUPER IMPORANT!!!!! PLEASE DON'T SKIP THIS POINT!!! Otherwise you'll ruin what you've done AND your knives!!!If you want to make prep work more enjoyable and easier... get this sharpener.... you'll wonder what took you so long!!

May damage your knife
Gets knives relatively sharp, but also damages the steel on the side of the blade with slight scratches.Definitely, should not be used for your fancier knives.

Shocking how well this works!
Hi All,So I purchased this Chef's Choise Pronto Asian knife sharpener -- after owning this now for a couple of years, I have nothing but great things to say about this little guy.Now I have some Shun knives, namely, a Shun classic 8" chef's knife, a Shun Elite 6.5" Santoku, a Shun Premier Chefs knife, and a few other smaller Shun knives as well.I was VERY afraid of initially using this device, for the fear of ruining the edges on knives costing upwards of $100.00 per piece. Shun knives do provide you with lifetime free sharpening, but you have to send off your knives, and I just didn't want to send all my knives away every few months and be without knives for a while. So after reading some good reviews here on Amazon, I decided to give this thing a go...The first knife I tried it on was my little 3.5" shun paring knife. Figured if it did F my edge up, it would be only my smallest, cheapest knife.Boy was I wrong -- it got the blade RAZOR, and I mean razor sharp. You simply do a few pulls through the Opening 1, and then follow it up / hone it on the 2nd opening. If your knives aren't too dull, you can skip the 1st slot and run them righ through the 2nd slot. That gave me the courage to try my hand at some of the biggger knives, and I achieved the same result, with just as much of a super sharp edge. I dare say this sharpener gets the knives sharper than they came from the factory.I was also worried that this sharpener would alter the blade edge up due to the fact that asain knives have finer degree edges, so I wasn't sure if it would sharpen according to these specialized edges -- but again, no problems -- edges look clean and smooth -- and as far as I can tell, this thing doesn't take off too much steel either. Some have commented that after pulling your knives through the slots, the sides of the blade get scratched up -- I never had this problem -- you just need to maitain the proper position of the blade/knife when running it.So what cam I say, for $40.00 bucks, you just can't go wrong. Dull knives simply rub me the wrong way and ruin foods -- if you can't stand dull kitchen knives, but don't want to deal with the trouble of sharpening them yourself, or having them sent away, this is a great solution.Highly recommended!
