Without a doubt, GM's LS Series engines are the hottest thing going right now. Thousands of enthusiasts are either modifying their cars factory equipped with these engines, supported by a robust aftermarket, or converting their vintage muscle cars to run with these efficient and powerful engines. Of course, with technology comes complexity. To get the maximum performance and efficiency out of any modern engine, you have to have a solid understanding of the technology involved and how to make the most of it. In How to Use and Upgrade to GM Gen III LS-Series Powertrain Control Systems , the benefits, advantages and nuances of this robust and efficient control system are thoroughly examined. Do you have a vehicle already equipped with an LS Series engine but want to do a transmission swap? Do you want to convert from a cable throttle to an electronic throttle, and make systems like cruise control integrate? Do you want to eliminate the dreaded Optispark distributor from your LT1/LT4? Perhaps convert your Gen I small-block to distributor-less ignition? Or convert to universal OBD-II diagnostics? Do you want an affordable control system to run fuel injection, ignition timing, cooling fans, air conditioning, and electronic overdrive transmissions while swapping all if this into your classic muscle car? How to Use and Upgrade to GM Gen III LS-Series Powertrain Control Systems will cover all of these applications and more. Not only are the performance and flexibility aspects covered in great detail, but there are significant cost benefits as well. Implementing a GM Series III PCM based control system will not only afford you great flexibility and tune-ability, but it can be accomplished significantly cheaper than most aftermarket alternatives. If you are planning any of these complex swaps or just looking to thoroughly understand the nuances of modern GM control systems, this book is a vital addition to your technical library.

So much great info in this book
I bought this book to get an idea of what it might take to convert a SBC to a later model computer. I love the idea of taking an older engine and upgrading it to use modern technology. The author seems extremely knowledgeable and by chance was the same individual that responded to my inquiries on the EFI connection website. This book was the tipping point for me to decide to convert my 1985 Tuned port injected Camaro to a modern computer. While it will still be Tuned Port injection, it should be able to process signals and adjust many times faster. The case studies are fun and thought invoking as well. It just goes to prove the author stands by their book and the processes described therein.

Good book on LS engines
I gain a lot of knowledge on how the LS engine works and also how to add some of the LS features to older Chevy engines for better performance.

Great info for planning any project using an "LS" PCM.
This book contains exactly the info I need to plan the use of a modern GM PCM for my older vehicle. It's not just another "LS" engine swap manual; it's about the electronics that came on these powertrains and how they can be adapted to work properly on other GM engines -OR- on your LS swap. Each chapter covers a different feature or function of the PCM, and the different ways you might address that function in your application. The book also features plenty of photos of the factory parts you might need, complete with part numbers, original applications, and side-by-side comparisons so you can easily identify them on a donor vehicle. (Like an "interchange" manual for LS electronics covering PCM's, all the various sensors, coils, IAC valves, etc). Toward the end of the book there are a few sample projects of vehicles that have been successfully retrofit to use "LS" series PCM's.Great info, very thorough, it's worth every penny!

touches on some basics for the novice
this book is pretty informative for the novice but it focuses mostly on efi live. i'm familiar with hptuners so this served some purposes but it didn't get into more advanced level of what wires do what with which ecu. the book is good but not great. i wanted to repin some wiring and modify wiring harnesses and this didn't do much for me with that regards.

The book is useless.
This is NOT a how to book, there is very little useful information, is very outdated. I cannot recommend this book to performance people - you're better off using google search or ls tech. Sorry... do not buy.

Good info...
Good read. I learned a lot from this book. Like... It's not going to be cheap to change my LT1 over to OBD2 but it can be done. Might just do an LS swap instead.

Somewhat useful info.
Lot of information about the GM LS EFI system and the various parts and their compatibility. Good explanation about the LS ECM's and their various strengths and weaknesses. He gives part numbers and talks about the various sensors and other devices in the LS engine in good detail and explains their differences. But, if you are looking for diagrams or actual how to connect something you won't find it here.A large portion of book is spent promoting the authors services and parts needed to convert LT-1 or MEFI systems to use the more advanced LS engine controls. Retrofitting cam sensors and crankshaft reluctors to engines not designed for them is interesting but of little value to most readers. In summary I cannot recommend this book to those who are looking to install or swap LS engines using factory harnesses. The author rejects the idea and instead suggests you build your own from scratch. If you have advanced knowledge it is an option, but expensive once you buy connectors and wire. This book will not be of much use to those who are not interested in upgrading their old TPI and LT-1 engines to LS controls.
