An Affordable Self Leveling Tamper for Espresso
I have been using an espresso tamper for years. My favorite is one with a nice olive wood handle. It feels and looks nice. Aesthetics aside, the most critical thing to do right with a tamper is to tamp even across the espresso grounds. The a traditional tamper, it is easy to tamp harder on one side than the other, especially for beginners. The result is that the coffee grounds are compressed more on one side than the other, resulting in a less than idea cup of coffee. A self-leveling tamper has a rim around the actual tamper that rests on the edge of the portafilter basket. The tamper itself is then guided up and down vertically and making it virtually impossible to tamp harder on one side than the other. I won't get into how to distribute the grounds evenly in the basket for this review, but suffice it to say, it's important distribute them evenly before you tamp. This little tamper is solidly built, actually heavy for its little size. It is made for a standard 58mm portafilter basket, which is almost the industry standard used in many commercial and higher end home espresso machines. It is well designed works very well and can be disassembled easily for cleaning.I could not find a serious fault with it except for aesthetics and that is an individual preference. It's hard for me to give up my olive wood handled tamper, but this one is so easy to use. Maybe the company can be encouraged to come out with nice wooden handles to replace the red metal on? Please?

nearly works
the flat, mirror polished bottom holds on to grounds often after pressing, especially in the center. a gentle spin does not get rid of it all, so sometimes you lose about half a pea's worth of grounds in the very middle of the puck. i believe some evidence of machining would reduce this effect

Well made but not for me
I'm a traditionalist when it comes to most things, including my espresso routine and tools. BUT it's hard not to want new gadgets and I love tools in general. So first I bought the flat palm style tamper with the internal spring, which I actually liked. Then I saw a thumb button style tamper on Tik Tok and had to try it. It works but it's not for me. I prefer a standard tamper or the palm version. This one does seem to be machined very well and finished well. Even if it's not for me, it's still a good tool, so it deserves a good rating.

My new favorite Tamp
What can I say? I love the design of this tamp. It fits my Gaggia Classic Pro portafilter perfectly, looks nice (is a nice departure from every other tamp which looks exactly the same). Seems to have a decent tamping pressure. Would recommend.

Compact and easy to use.
What I like about this tamper is that it’s pretty compact and not as big or tall as some other tampers, it’s lighter because of that. The tamping surface is nice an flat and work well with any 58mm ports filter and basket i have. I do however have an issue with quality, the Red handle area has discoloration and wasn’t as uniform. That’s my deduction for a star.

Amazing Tamper
This tamper is absolutely brilliant. Just a single spring to retract the tamper...no other gimmick. Perfectly aligned tamping at a very reasonable price. It is also nice looking and has an interesting style. Thing is pretty much like the Pancake tamper from SWORKS without the insane price and with a nice spring to help you keep the tamped puck intact. Love it!
