If you have buildings with wood trim and siding, odds are that you are very familiar with carpenter bees. They attack year after year and as if the Swiss-cheesing of your structure wasn't bad enough, woodpeckers often chisel their way into it for some tasty bees or larvae. Carpenter bees are lazy, just like people, and they prefer to use ready-made holes. They check the holes in this trap out and when they try to leave, they end up in the receptacle. Catch them before they tunnel, because once they are in their tunnel they are hard to kill... This trap is easily placed, as ornamental as a bee trap can be, and is sure to be a conversation starter when your friends ask about the strange object hanging from your eaves. You can say that it wards off evil spirits... The trap should be placed in the area of most bee activity. Placement is critical and it may take some experimentation. Filling existing bee galleries also reduces reuse and encourages exploration of the trap openings.
