Check & Mate

I have loved reading Hazelwood's novels not just because the plot is interesting but also that het protagonists are work oriented — and not just obsessed with the lead. Having read all her books till now, Check and Mate is as a delightful read and I would rank it as high as her debut, the much acclaimed — Love Hypothesis!

Okay so this was a very cute read, I really liked both the main characters. I could relate with Mallory and her breakdown towards the end really made me cry. Nolan was such a sweet man, he encouraged Mal and never let her feel like she was less. I wanted them to work because they were obviously very good for each other. The plot sometimes felt boring but still I read it in one sitting. I felt like some side characters were good while some were annoying and the epilogue could've been written better. So overall I enjoyed reading this book but it wasn't as good as I was expecting it to be tbh.

It was such a cute and fun read. I felt like it was too short but that’s because I only wanted more Mallory and Nolan moments!

While Nolan is the main male lead, the game of chess almost overshadows him, acting as the true second lead of the book. For chess fans, this book will hit home with its chess-heavy focus, revolving around competitive tournaments all the way to the world championship. Check & Mate is a solid coming-of-age read.

I didn’t expect it to be this good but it was amazing. I loved reading this one! Ali never disappoints :)

LISTEN. Listen. This is the first Ali HAZELWOOD book I’ve ever read, I KNOW, I’m late to the party. But it was the CHESS that got me (I’m not a star wars fan). Now, I read a lot of books, like 100 a year books. But this one? THIS ONE??!! I giggled, I screamed, I threw up (metaphorically). Some people say there was too much chess but I LOVED IT. I was on the edge of my seat at every moment and the romantic aspect to it was in PERFECT quantity. The characters were believable, the love, the challenges and arcs. It immediately made its way to my favourites shelf after finishing it in 3 hours. Did I mention I got it as a gift for someone who likes chess but kept it and had to buy a second? Yes. It’s that good.

No thing eles to be said. Her books are all amazing and ive real them all as of now. Even being YA it did not dissppoint with her usual talo and muscular and yearning Mmcs
