great deal for only $18 and free shipping
I really had my doubts about $18 optics but it really is great little monocular. They said it may take a month to be shipped from China, but it arrived in less than 2 weeks; amazing that they can fly Russian optics (it says "made in Russia" on the housing)from a Chinese middle-man for $18. The fit and finish of the item is decent and the lenses are clear, coated, and have a pretty decent image for the price, but I noticed that one half of the view is always a little fuzzy. You can refocus to make the fuzzy side sharp, but then the sharp side is then fuzzy; apparently, at least one of the lenses is not perfectly seated perpendicular to the line of sight line. I have another monocular that I paid over $50 -that is over 3x bigger in size with a 3.5x magnification- with the same slightly fuzzy half image problem, but I never noticed it for 10+ years till now; so, apparently this may be a problem typical of most lower cost optics. I love this monocular, it's very inexpensive, extremely well made for the price, so tiny, has good field of view, and despite what most people may think its 2.5x magnification is perfect for reading far off street signs and making out distant objects for the majority of practical situations.

Russian Pocket Scope
I rate this as an EXCELLENT pocket tool. I bought one years ago, love it, and wanted several more to ensure that 1'll always be able to find it...It took me quite a while to find a source again, in China this time but service was excellent and quick.I looked over dozens of pocket scopes online and in stores, bought several, and went back to looking for this one!Others were ALL much longer and bulkier, pushing the limits of what I want in my pocket. Some were more powerful than the little Russian one, but I did not find that sufficient reason to put up with the bulk in my pocket...I now have 5 of these, car, pocket, desk and all are as sharp and clear as my first. I look at the campus hawk out my office window, read book titles on the other side of the office, and turn it on anything interesting that appears around me.It is the only high quality one I have found truly small enough to keep with me at all times. For reference, significantly smaller than a 35MM film canister.

It's neat that it's so tiny, but distance isn't so great.
It doesn't magnifie things as well as I wished it would have, but I can see a little bit further with it then without it, just not much further. It looks to be well made and fits in my coat pocket very easily, but my other spy monocular that is just a little bit bigger then this one, is able to magnifiy object much better. So I suggest trying one of the other spy monoculars sold here on amazon first.

should be called non-prism Galilean monocular
I guess I was expecting more. This is a Galilean telescope, i.e. one convex and one concave lens. There is no prism. The housing is ok and it's little holder is cool; but the optics are terrible. The field of view is miniscule and the focus is not uniform across the field. I've since seen these on ebay and other china sites for under $8, with free shipping. A pair tied together might be called opera glasses. I gave it 2 stars because it's small and sturdy.

Three Stars
Cheaply made with hardly Any Magnification, although it does come with a cute holder.
