My new true love. Coming from the Canon 70D the R8 is the perfect upgrade for me. The 4k video, fantastic. The 1080p slow-mo video fantastic. This sensor has great dynamic range allowing me to recover shadows in post production, and the 24megapixel allows a lot of cropping with little quality loss. I shoot photo/video swimwear portraits for paid and non-paid gigs. The only drawback is the overheating. 30 minutes into a 4k beach video shoot, and i'm having to switch to shooting photos or shooting 180fps video @ 1080p. So, if you shoot straight 4k you'll heat this camera up. That's why I mix it up, photo/4k video/1080p video etc... Battery life is also on the short end. I use a third party battery grip with x2 batteries in the grip, and that'll get me about 1.5/2 hrs then I swap batteries so I have about 4hrs total of shoot time. (Roughly 45 minutes / 1hr per battery dependingon usage). I suggest having at least 2 batteries. I have 4. Overall, Excellent camera for the price. I don't mind finding workarounds, I mostly use prime lenses so i'm used to workarounds. 🤪

Such a great investment.
I am learning to fall in love with this camera. It takes great photos and does definitely take some time to figure out how to get set up as a beginner, but I think that primarily depends on the operator. My biggest complaint about this camera is that the battery life is HORRID. Plan to have at least 2 backups if you’re using this for business. Another design issue, is that there isn’t a dual SD slot. Third complaint is that this camera heats up fairly quickly if you’re using this as a source for video. After about an hour and a half you can kiss your camera goodbye until it cools down. Other than that, this camera takes great photos and videos, and the autofocus is absolutely superb. Even in low lighting sessions, this doesn’t cease to fail me. I love the touchscreen and swivel feature, for when I need to reach hard to get places. For what I use it for, I think this is a great little sidekick that I will be using for years to come.
