Worth every penny
RRS equipment is expensive. But it’s worth every single penny. I’ve been hesitant to buy this ball head, but I’ve been using my old ball head more frequently and decided I needed to upgrade. I’m not disappointed in any way. This head is extremely tough and smooth in movement. It easily holds my DSLR (Canon 1DX Mii) with medium sized lens. Its stability is incredible and allows for minor adjustments without fear of loosening too much.I shouldn’t have waited this long to make the investment.

Soild Build in all Respects
I have owned numerous brands of ball heads and used them in rugged outdoor conditions on almost every continent and BH-55 is by far my favorite. Quality materials and engineering. Rock solid on my tripod and clamps securly to full frame bodies & lenses. Exteremly smooth action on the stainless steel ball bearings locking knobs allowing quick locks as well as fine adjustments. Two 90-degree drop-notches well designed for quick positioning. In a word, quality.Worth the money as this will likely be the last ball head you'll ever need to buy.

Best Ball Head and Expensive
Precision made, precision adjustments. Wonderfully stable. Will last a lifetime. High resale value. If you are on a very important photo shoot and do not want to deal with issues of shake and movement, you get this ball-head. You have a heavy lens. You get this ball head. Of course you need an equally good tripod. I have been teaching photography for 20 years at the colleges. I do not make this recommendation lightly.

Meh
I tested this side by side two other makes an this did not perform any better than once costing much less. Not worth it after the final analysis.

One of the best on the market
This is an incredibly sturdy, well made product. Pair it with a RRS tripod and you’ve got a piece of gear that will last years. It’s really expensive but if you buy a cheaper tripod you’ll just end up replacing it with this later on anyway. Better to spend the money up front!

Ball head tension locked up after normal use
Paid well over $500 for my BH 55. Had it for over 5 years with minimal use. Out of warranty.Ball head tension knob froze up after being locked in 90% position for a shoot. Could not unstuck. Checked all posts, videos, forums for solution but could find none. Called RRS from the field but they don't answer their phone. Left message. No response. I emailed them and received a reply within days stating I should send it in to repair. I did. Took about 2 weeks and was charged $62 plus not including tax and shipping. No explanation as to why it locked up or how to prevent it in the future. This was my experience...just so you know.

First class ball head
This RRS ball head lives up to all of Really Right Stuff's reputation for quality, performance, weight and price. I was looking for a ball head that was more rigid than my previous ones, even at the price of changing to an Arca-Swiss compatible quick release system. The BH-55 LR really delivers rock-steady performance in long exposures. It is heavy and certainly is expensive but it's fully worth the price.

Seller is overcharging :(
The ball head is 5 stars. This seller is heavily overcharging compared to manufacturer direct sales or other online sellers, hence the 1 star for this offer. Should be ~$500 NOT beyond the $600 mark.
