Awesome lens for little money.
I just got it and took some shots in my room. So a more detailed review will follow.I use this lens together with a Nikon D5300. The images seem sharp, for the price the quality is awesome. If you want to see examples, go on flickr and search for "Vivitar 8mm". This will give you an idea whats possible with this lens.As you might have noticed, this is a "manual lens". It means, that all the automatic settings that I am used to are not working. This means, no autofocus and also no automatic shutter/aperture. And no automatic flash. The camera still gives a hint, when the picture is sharp, but all settings have to be set manually, so point and shoot will not work or require luck.Still, using the lans makes fun and spending some time with the manual and getting used to manual mode should do no harm. The lens comes with a bag, a microfiber, and caps. The caps look cheap and the mount is the other way round, but the lens itself gives no worse quality feeling than the Nikkor 18-140mm lens I bought together with my camera.I did not measure the angle of view but I guess it is a bit less than 180 degrees. Still way more than I expected. On some of my test shots I can see my fingers, which hold the lens - I did not even think it is possible. As a first result, I'd say for the price it is awesome. It is not the most convinient one, but as I don't think I will use a fisheye often, spending more money on a model with cpu would have not made sense for me. At this moment I highly recommend this lens to everyone who think he needs a fisheye lens but has limited budget. As it is not very convienient and the caps seem like they will break soon, I think 4 stars should be a good rating. If I included the price, this lens needed 10 stars ;)

You couldn't GIVE me another Vivitar product.
PlusUSA did a fine job with the product. Their service was fine. I'd gladly order something from them in a heartbeat.Vivitar OTOH is a joke of a company. The lens I was sent developed a focus ring problem within a couple months of owning it, so I called support. (Right off the bat, the support number provided is a shared support line between Walmart, Crayola, and Vivitar. That inspires confidence...) The line was backed up, but their recording says to email [email protected]. E-mailed support. Two days later I got a bounce message saying that vivitar.com isn't configured to receive email. Check vivitar's website says to email [email protected]. (That makes sense.....) Emailed that address. After a week of not getting a response, I call again and get through to a rep. They instruct me to send the unit back for replacement.I called last week and was told my replacement is still "in the picking stage" and will arrive "at the end of this week or early next week", and that the normal turn around time was 3-4 weeks. I explained it had already been five and I've had no contact from Vivitar explaining where my lens is....I called this week.....and was told my replacement is still "in the picking stage" and will arrive "at the end of this week or early next week", and that the normal turn around time was 3-4 weeks. I explained it has now been six weeks....Don't waste your money on Vivitar equipment. It's clear that they're just another shell company pumping out cheap crap and trading on an old name.

field of view
Lives up to all my expectations. Having been born and raised on manual Nikon FTns, lack of automation is no problem. Shooting outdoors on a sunny day I just invoke the "sunny rule." But the beauty of digital is apparent when you can see the shot instantly and make any corrections.I'm shooting on a D format (cropped) Nikon and the little loss of field of view is no big thing.

So far so good.
A decent lens for an inexpensive lens. Have taken a few pictures and so far so good. It's what I expected for the price.

Love this Lens!
I couldn't be happier with this lens. It is my first time purchasing a fisheye lens so I am unable to compare it to a Nikon or Canon but I will say....the photographs I have been able to take with this lens are of amazing quality! I am having tons of fun with this lens. You can't beat this price and you definitely get your money's worth and more. I recommend this lens.

The Vivitar Fisheye lens is awesome! No adapters needed to fit on the Nikon camera I have, (which is the D3200), and it takes some of the most awesome pictures I have yet to see. The price of the lens is very competitive with others I had looked at, and is well worth the money to get these awesome pictures. Thank-you! Kelly

Vivitar 8mm Ultra Wide - lacking right 'connection' for Nikon D3200
The lens itself was pretty and a fisheye; but it did not have the right connections for the Nikon D3200 camera we expected. As a result, the camera would not recognize the lens. We returned it.

Does the task and does it nicely!
I like prefer prime lenses in many cases. Sharper photos and they are perfect for the task they are built for. This is a good basic Fisheye lens. So far, it works well for me. You have to bit a bit more effort into your compositions and settings but for the price, this is a great lens.
