If acrylic goes onto most surfaces why do I need a gesso?

While acrylics adhere to most surfaces, some offer more 'grip'. Gesso prepares surfaces for a long-term bond, improving absorbency, tooth, and sealing out impurities. Without sealing, water or colour can leach through, causing discolouration.

A ground is the first base layer you paint onto the virgin surface, and the term for the material used. Artists traditionally use a gesso, but you can use a range of different mediums as a ground. We talk about a good ground adding ‘teeth’/’tooth.’

How do I create a coloured gesso?

Brilliant, great for using to give other effects, like some texture and mixed media elements. Easy to use, I use a small pallet knive, good consistency by a good brand, a good sized pot to last me. No leakage, I highly recommend this product.

Perfecto para hacer relieves, se puede teñir con acrílicos. El secado en 24 horas si la capa no es muy espesa, si lo es mejor esperar más tiempo. Producto para tener paciencia.

Vielseitig und lange haltbar

Habe das Produkt 2020 für Mixed Media Projekte gekauft, speziell zum Schablonieren, um nicht extra Modelier- oder Texturpaste kaufen zu müssen. Heavy Gesso ist so vielseitig, da man es z. B. verdünnen und einfärben kann! Trotzdem habe ich haufenweise andere Schabloniercremes und Glitzerpasten gekauft und dieses halbvolle Töpfchen hinten im Regal vergessen. Nun, Jahre später, habe ich es geöffnet und befürchtet, es sei ausgetrocknet oder anderweitig unbrauchbar geworden wie das mit diversen anderen Sachen schon der Fall war. Aber nein! Optik, Geruch und Konsistenz absolut unverändert. Dolles Zeug. Bin auch mit der Qualität anderer Liquitex-Produkte sehr zufrieden.
