I’m a former professional photographer now running a design studio. As I looked to modernise my services and attract better clients, I realised I needed to do more with video. After researching the options, everything kept pointing back to the Panasonic S5IIX - a camera that offers serious capability without breaking the bank. If your focus is on video, get this camera - whether for the outstanding in-body stabilisation or those lovely V-Log files that are surprisingly easy to grade. For stills photographers, don’t rule it out either. I’ve now adopted a hybrid workflow, and this camera hits the mark. The S5IIX is aimed more at video shooters, but it’s a perfectly capable stills camera too. I picked it up with the 50mm lens in a bundle deal that made it even more affordable, and the quality of that lens is stunning, with crisp, sharp detail from edge to edge, even wide open at f/1.8. The L-Mount lenses are a collaboration with Leica, and it shows. The body is compact and light - a welcome change after years of using old Canon pro gear that always felt heavy for the sake of it. The Lumix feels solid and well put together, and from what I’ve heard from long-term users, it’s also proven to be reliable — no overheating, no drama. There’s a broad range of third-party accessories if you want to rig it out properly. I’ve used parts from SmallRig, Atomos, Godox and others, but what impressed me is how usable the S5IIX is even without extras. It records 6K 10-bit Open Gate video (full sensor width, 3:2), which gives you loads of room for reframing or vertical crops. I find the image quality genuinely impressive. Stills are equally strong, and the 24MP sensor feels like a sweet spot: enough detail for large prints without huge file sizes. If you want to push things further, there’s a 96MP high-res mode - best used on a tripod with no subject movement, but the results are genuinely stunning and comparable with 100MP medium format cameras. The 14-stop+ dynamic range has few equals, delivering smooth highlight roll-off and clean shadows without obvious noise or banding. Colour rendering is strong, and the files hold up well in grading or Raw editing. The lack of an anti-aliasing filter adds clarity, especially when paired with the Lumix lenses. I had considered using my old Canon lenses with an adaptor, but I’m glad I didn’t. I started with the Lumix 50mm, added the 14–28mm, and plan to get the 24–105mm next. The L-Mount was developed with Leica and their influence is felt. You even get Leica colour profiles in the camera, which is a nice touch. Low light performance is amazing. ISO 4000 often looks as clean as ISO 100 did on my older cameras, which is remarkable. I often check the EXIF to be sure - and this ability opens up situations I wouldn’t have attempted before. The not-so-good? The menu system is comprehensive, to put it mildly - which is both a strength and a challenge. It took a while to get everything set how I like it, and I did end up watching quite a few videos to understand certain features. The PDF manual is massive, so online guidance was more helpful at first. The blacked-out branding on the front looks great, but the dark top dial markings aren’t ideal. They’re hard to see in low light and should have stayed white for usability. Battery life is decent, but if you spend a lot of time in the menus or playback, it drains quicker, so I picked up two spares and a dual charger. Summary There are enough features on this camera to write about it all day, but here’s the bottom line: you’re getting a tool used by top professionals, without the price tag that usually comes with it. Whether you’re producing video content, shooting stills, or combining both, the S5IIX is capable, flexible, and solid. The lens ecosystem is excellent, with strong options from Panasonic, Leica, and Sigma. It’s also surprisingly future-proof. You can record straight to an SSD, load LUTs, shoot full-sensor Open Gate, or just set it to auto and capture great results. If you’re comparing cameras in this range, it’s hard to find anything that offers more for the money - especially if you’re aiming to grow creatively or professionally. This camera is amazing, it’s way above my abilities at the moment but I’m learning fast. I own a couple of decent Sony cameras, one is a low level DSLR but this one is on a whole different level and is the first mirrorless camera I’ve owned. The instruction manual is huge but very comprehensive and easy to find your way around. Unfortunately it’s not a printed copy, it can be downloaded but it’s too big to print off. I do prefer to read something on paper rather than a screen but online does allow you to easily find the section you need. It’s a very substantial sturdy camera but not so heavy that you can’t carry it around. I am a bit scared of dropping it so at the moment it’s either around my neck or on a tripod, a case is on order. The battery life is second to none, I charged it initially and throughout testing it’s not needed recharging and still shows 2 bars. Using the manual, I’ve been able to take a few better than decent photos, make adjustments and generally play around with the settings. The auto focus is my go to setting for now but as I understand the dials and settings more that will change. The screen and view finder give a beautifully clear image of the picture you’re about to take. I find the way the rear screen moves and rotates is very useful. The picture quality is amazing, better than anything I’ve taken on my other cameras. The depth of image really shows almost making some appear 3D. I love the little square in the view finder that allows you to focus in on certain areas or open it up to the whole screen. It’s the first time I’ve managed to blur everything other than the focal point. I’ve found all the dials and controls I’ve used to be very responsive. There is an option to add a flash but I’ve been so impressed with the low light level photos I’ve taken I won’t be purchasing one. I’ve not done much with the video function other than to make sure it works, to be honest I’ve not used that function much in previous cameras so I’m not sure I’ll get much use with this one either I’m more of a stills person. It is very easy though to move from still photography to video recording. As I’ve only used Sony cameras in the past this is taking a bit of getting used to but I have to say it does without doubt produce the best images I’ve ever shot.

Ich bin Fotograf mit einer Canon R3 und R6 Mk.2 und wollte für Videoschnitte auf dem Gimbal was kleineres bzw. leichteres haben. Also hatte ich mich erstmal für Sony interessiert und stellte aber relativ schnell fest, da ich einige der Sony Kameras in der Eventbranche testen durfte, dass die nichts für mich ist. Dann geriet ich durch tagelanges Forsten an die LUMIX S5IIX hier und muss sagen, dass ich null enttäuscht wurde. Zum Äußeren der Kamera: Die Kamera ist klein, leicht und dennoch, durch das "Hartplastik-Metall-Gehäuse", sehr robust. Ich persönlich liebe auch den komplett schwarzen, cleanen look. Der Gripp ist auch sehr solide und die Räder & Tasten sehr hochwertig verarbeitet. Der Lüfter ist gut geschützt und schnell zu erkennen. ----- Zur Kamera selbst: Beim Einschalten war ich mir nicht sicher und bekam kurz Panik, da die Kamera zum Starten doch ihre 2-3 Sekunden braucht. Anfangs musste ich mich noch etwas an die andere Menüführung gewöhnen und stellte aber relativ schnell fest, dass die deutlich überschaubarer ist, als man denkt. Es gibt unzählige Einstellungen für Filme (MOV, ProRes, MP4), die sowohl im Vollformat, als auch in APS-C mit bis zu 10-Bit vorhanden sind (Details zu den Auflösungen kommen weiter unten). Für Foto gibt es auch mehrere Funktionen, wie z.B die Ultra High Resolution Funktion, um die Bilder mit bis zu 100MP aufzunehmen. Hierzu beachten: Die Aufnahme ruhig halten und danach erstmal 5-7 Sekunden abwarten. Es dauert ein wenig, bis der Prozess das Bild verarbeitet. Und auch eine sehr schnelle Speicherkarte wird dazu bevorzugt, da ich bei Standard Karten (100 MBit/s) die Meldung mehrmals hatte, dass das Bild nicht verarbeitet werden konnte. Kurz gesagt, die Kamera ist sehr vielseitig und hat sehr viele Funktionen (Proxy, Black Magic Ausgabe für externe BM Geräte, ATOMOS Connect, Live Streaming per WLAN / Tethering, Aufnahme direkt auf eine SSD (SSD Halter bei diversen Case Firmen verfügbar), und und und. ----- Zu den Auflösungen: Die höchsten Vollformat-Auflösung im Überblick: Für ProRes (50Hz) bei 5,8K & 4K mit 25p bzw. bei Full HD noch zusätzlich mit & 50p vorhanden. Für ProRes (59,94Hz(60Hz)) bei 5,8K & 4K mit 23,98p & 29,97p bzw. bei Full HD noch mit 59,94p vorhanden. Für MOV (24Hz) bei 6K, 5,9K & (C)4K mit 24p bzw. bei Full HD noch zusätzlich mit 48p vorhanden. Für MOV (50Hz) bei 6K, 5,9K & (C)4K mit 25p bzw. bei Full HD noch zusätzlich mit 50p & 100p vorhanden. Für MOV (60Hz) bei 6K, 5,9K & (C)4K mit 23,98p & 29,97p bzw. bei Full HD noch mit 47,95p, 59,94p & 119,88p vorhanden. Für MP4 lass ich den Vergleich mal weg, da es dort auch nur gefühlt Standard Auflösungen gibt (25p & 50p). Der Fokus liegt hier bei der Kamera aber ganz klar bei MOV & ProRes. ----- Die Aufnahmen: Die Aufnahmen können auch in Slow Motion direkt aufgenommen werden oder mit einem eigenen LUT überdeckt werden. So sieht man auch direkt das grobe Endergebnis, welches man haben möchte. Die Wiedergabe läuft auch sehr flüssig, wenn man eine schnell SD Karte (200Mbit/s aufwärts) bzw. eine SSD dran hat. Ansonsten hat man das Gefühl, dass die Kamera immer hängt und nichts macht, da die Daten lange geladen werden. Die Tonaufnahme könnte vom internen Mikrofon besser sein. Daher meine Empfehlung: Holt euch definitiv noch ein externes Mikro von Rode, Sennheiser oder sonst wem dazu. Der Autofokus ist gefühlt schneller als das menschliche Auge und erkennt sofort die Motive, die man einfangen möchte. Manchmal muss man etwas nachjustieren, wen oder was man verfolgen möchte, was gerade bei mehreren Personen / Objekten im Motiv der Fall ist. Aber meistens erkennt der Fokus genau die Person, die man haben will in der Aufnahme. ----- Objektive: Ich habe aktuell das 20-60 mm aus dem Kit hier und ein 35 mm 1.8 Objektiv und musste mich als Canon Nutzer erstmal an die entgegengesetzte Umdrehung des manuellen Fokus bzw. des Zooms gewöhnen :D Aber man kommt schnell rein und wird vertraut damit. Lediglich der Zoom vom 20-60 mm Objektiv könnte etwas weicher sein, da er sehr haptisch wirkt und nicht sachte zu bedienen ist, aber es ist eben ein Kit-Objektiv. Da wird bei der Qualität leider meistens gespart bzw. selten mal ein hochpreisiges Objektiv beigelegt. Das weiß man aber vorm Kauf. ----- Fazit nach 5 Monaten: Ich hab bei weitem nicht alle Funktionen durch und nutze die Kamera hauptsächlich für Aufnahmen im Urlaub und Social Media. Die ist auch etwas zu overkill für mich, aber ich wollte unbedingt eine Vollformat Kamera sowohl für Video, als auf für 4K Videos, die nicht 5-stellig kostet und eben leicht zu handhaben ist. Würde ich jedem Creator / Streamer nur empfehlen, da die sehr gut läuft, der Lüfter auch bei 4K & 6k Aufnahmen keineswegs zu laut zu hören ist und somit auch die Aufnahmen nicht übertönt. Ebenso hatte ich streams für mehrere Stunden am Laufen (man kann die Kamera direkt über USB-C Laden und zeitgleich oder eben über HDMI parallel streamen) und die ist nicht mal ansatzweise überhitzt oder heiß geworden (dank des guten Airflows & Lüfter). Das einzige Manko an der Sache, Wenn man die Kamera dauerhaft für eine Aufnahme am Strom angeschlossen hat und nicht zum Streamen nutzt, dann kann man keine SSD anschließen, da nur ein USB-C Anschluss vorhanden ist. Sprich, für lange Aufnahmen zum speichern, braucht ihr eine gute und große SD-Karte (256GB aufwärts) oder einen extra Akku mit Netzspannung. Aber im groben und ganzen ist die Kamera, dank des guten Autofokus, der langen Akkulaufzeit (empfehle hier die Akkus von K&F, da die deutlich länger halten) und den unzähligen Funktionen den Preis doch wert. Ganz klare Kaufempfehlung!

Excellent appareil. Je l'ai acheté de base pour la vidéo, mais je me suis découvert une passion pour la photo tellement la qualité est au rdv ! Associé au 50mm f1.8 du pack, et à mes achats du 24-70 f2.8 et du 70-200 f2.8, je suis vraiment très satisfait de ce Lumix !

Il prodotto è di altissima qualità, Panasonic S5IIX, che dire..solo il marchio sa di professionalità. Sono un ragazzo di 21 anni, che ha appena iniziato a girare dopo anni di montaggi e proiezioni video. Macchina da paura, 10 modalità e anche più di formati, dal 1920x1080 25p al 6K 100p..Qualità da paura, esteticamente é veramente bella, e non parliamo della facilità con cui si può usare il menù e l’interfaccia..Se avete bisogno di una macchina fotografica principalmente per video, vi STRAconsiglio questa. Ha miliardi di funzioni rispetto ad altre, per non parlare delle riprese in ProRes di qualità altissima, il top di gamma. La possibilità di registrare in SSD, utilissimo, per chi ha bisogno di fare uno spot Live, e non vuole scaricare le schede. La possibilità di caricare le proprie lut nel set del menù, oppure la stabilizzazione boost, che anche a mano libera sembra di avere un gimbal dji nelle mani. Macchina da comprare, la consiglio a chiunque, veramente pazzesca. Tra parentesi, il 50mm ad 1.8, é qualcosa di fenomenale..

Quería dar el salto de M4/3 a Full Frame y además queria una cámara para todo, fotos y vídeo sin dejarme un riñón. Pues bien, no podría está más contento. En foto va sobrada, buen agarre, construcción excelente, buena botonería y super configurable. Una cosa que me ha llamado la atención es que puedes poner cada botón a tu antojo, increíble la cantidad de personalización y automatismo que puedes alcanzar según tu gusto. Para vídeo va sobrada para lo que quiero, si más adelante necesito más ya se verá. Además puedes poner un disco duro directamente a cámara para conseguir la máxima calidad 6K. Un consejo, puedes comprar un disco duro de los que recomiendas Panasonic, pero recomiendo un SSD + carcasa externa y ahorrarás dinero con mejor y más velocidad de memoria. Esto ya a gustos. Tenía miedo en cuanto a la gama de objetivos para Panasonic en Full Frame. Pero nada más lejos de la realidad. Evidentemente no tiene la cantidad de marcas que Sony, pero si buscas calidad máxima (también la más cara), tienes las de la propia marca fabricado por Leica y Panasonic. Pero... Si no quieres empeñar el coche para hacer buenas fotos, tienes toda la gama de Sigma que abarca prácticamente todas las distancias focales por bajo coste (bajo según el mundo fotográfico, que sabemos que barato no es). Velocidad enfocando y con capacidad de enfoque al ojo para humanos y animales. Funciona de maravilla Rango dinámico muy bueno. Vengo de M4/3, así que aquí me he quedado impresionado en este sentido. Como he recuperado sombras o luces manteniendo calidad y nitidez. Estabilizador brutal y los objetivos son también estabilizados, por lo que todo son buenas sensaciones, además tiene estabilizador electrónico por si necesitas aún más estabilización. Eso sí, con recorte. Todo no va a ser bueno. La batería no dura mucho comparado a otras, pero te aseguro que tampoco ha sido dramático. Unas 300 fotos, y compré 2 baterías más por menos de 50€ con cargador, por lo que en este aspecto no tengo tanto problema realmente. Por último el precio... Iba a por la Sony IV pero son 500€ más haciendo prácticamente lo mismo. Conseguí cámara + objetivo 20-60 por 2107€. Por ese precio me parece una pasada de cámara. Pero es que si me apuras y estás empezando y no tienes claro, o quieres ir haciéndote poco a poco con objetivos y más adelante aumentar a una cámara mejor, tienes el modelo v1 por 1000€...! o 1500 con dos objetivos! Uno kit + 50mm 1.8. Si, con enfoque por contraste en lugar de por fase y con menos puntos de enfoque, pero...¿una Full Frame para empezar o para hacer fotos Amateur por 1000/1500€ con objetivos incluidos, estabilizador y casi lo mismo que está cámara? Panasonic lo está bordando con la gama S. Hay cámaras APSC que cuestan más. En resumen, no me arrepiento y la recomiendo muchísimo

Nach langer Überlegung und intensiver Recherche habe ich mich endlich für die Panasonic LUMIX DC-S5M2XKE entschieden, und ich kann ehrlich sagen, dass ich die Entscheidung nie bereut habe. Als Videojournalist ist die Kamera ein wahrer Traum. Sie bietet eine außergewöhnliche Bildqualität, sowohl bei Fotos als auch bei Videos. Besonders beeindruckend ist die Vollformat-Sensor-Technologie, die in Kombination mit der leistungsstarken LUMIX S-R2060 20-60mm Linse eine unglaublich scharfe und detailreiche Bildwiedergabe liefert. Die Videoqualität ist atemberaubend, mit einer 4K-Auflösung und exzellenter Farbwiedergabe. Ich nehme fast ausschließlich Videos auf, und die stabile, schnelle Fokussierung sowie die hervorragende Low-Light-Performance der Kamera sind absolut überzeugend. Das macht sie perfekt für meine Arbeit als Videojournalist, bei der ich häufig in unterschiedlichen Lichtverhältnissen und schnell wechselnden Szenen arbeite. Das LUMIX S-R2060 20-60mm Standardobjektiv, das im Kit enthalten ist, reicht für die meisten Aufnahmesituationen völlig aus. Es bietet eine hervorragende Schärfe, ist flexibel und sehr praktisch für den Alltag. Das Objektiv deckt einen vielseitigen Brennweitenbereich ab, der sowohl für weite Landschaftsaufnahmen als auch für detailreiche Nahaufnahmen geeignet ist. Für meine speziellen Anforderungen werde ich jedoch noch ein lichtstärkeres Objektiv hinzufügen, um die Leistung bei schwachen Lichtverhältnissen noch weiter zu verbessern und die kreative Kontrolle zu erweitern. Die Bedienung der Kamera ist intuitiv und benutzerfreundlich. Die Funktionstasten sind gut platziert, und das Menü ist übersichtlich, sodass ich schnell und effizient auf alle Funktionen zugreifen kann. Der Bildstabilisator ist ebenfalls ein großes Plus, besonders wenn ich ohne Stativ arbeite oder in Bewegung filme. Was mich an der S5M2XKE besonders begeistert, ist die Hochwertigkeit und das robuste Design, das sich auch in anspruchsvollen Einsatzbedingungen als äußerst zuverlässig zeigt. Die Kamera ist nicht nur leistungsstark, sondern fühlt sich auch sehr angenehm in der Hand an – selbst bei längeren Aufnahmen. Abschließend kann ich die Panasonic LUMIX DC-S5M2XKE jedem empfehlen, der sowohl als Fotograf als auch als Videofilmer auf der Suche nach einer hochwertigen, vielseitigen und leistungsstarken Kamera ist. Die Kombination aus erstaunlicher Bildqualität, professionellen Video-Funktionen und benutzerfreundlichem Design macht sie zu einer der besten Optionen auf dem Markt. Für alle, die noch darüber nachdenken, ob diese Kamera die richtige Wahl für sie ist: Ich kann sie uneingeschränkt empfehlen. Sie hat meine Erwartungen übertroffen und ist definitiv jeden Cent wert.
