Pungent smell
With much anticipation of the original French Madeleines, as we openeded the package, a strong pungent whiff hit us. The outer courrier packing was great, safeguarding the delicate cakes but the packet had this funny smell. We took each of the individually wrapped Madeleine from the bigger packet and aerated them in a tray hoping to salvange our little cakes in case the odour was from outer packaging. But to our dismay, the next day, biting into each of the Madeleines, we realized it was probably in the cake themselves. Maybe some ingredient but definitely unappetizing.
