Can I take this out of the bag and just pour it into the plastic container?

I would think it could dry out the product. You could always try leaving a smaller amount in the container see if it stays fresh.

Someone said it has a fish smell, does it?

I guess if you put your nose right in the container you'll smell something like a fish smell, but not once it gets fed to the dog! Nothing that makes me gag when I prepare my dogs food...

how do you feed this to cats?

I would imagine just mixing it in with what food you currently feed them, I dont know how well animals will take to it over dry food tho. I think it would work best with wet food. this also comes in tablets so maybe better to put it in a treat for a cat.
