Exotic Botanic Garden Dinner Plate Set with 6 Assorted Motifs

I have been a fan of Portmeirion since the mid 1970's. I was very excited to see that there were additional dinner plates that I could add to two previous editions (1972 and approximately 2003) to give my set 18 different designs. The three different issues blend together nicely. Don't let the word "Exotic" deter you from adding to any of the other editions of these plates. To me, these are just another extension to a beautiful line of dinnerware. There are some actual plate design differences between the three editions, however, they still stack nicely and no one would probably notice unless they look at the plates' undersides to detect this. One of the plates from this specific set does have several flaws on its underside. Not sure how this will hinder the plate's performance in the future, but I'll update this review if I notice anything that causes me to reduce this rating to 4 stars instead of 5. Finally, my experience with Portmeirion as a whole has been a good one. In the 40+ years that I have owned this line, I have had only two "casualties" with neither being a fault of the manufacture of the dish. These dishes have held up to everyday use and are still almost as beautiful as the day I got them. I expect the same from this recent purchase and I highly recommend that anyone interested in Portmeirion to give this set a try. They are truly beautiful.

Years ago, I'd bought a full set of Portmeirion dishes, and a few had broken over time. I ordered these as replacements, and was very pleasantly surprised. They are as beautiful as the originals, but sturdier (a bit heavier). The price was very good - less than I'd paid in the past. And they are still made in England. That surprised me (especially given the price) - I'd assumed production had been moved to China by now.

Very beautiful set of plates. We were relieved that the plates were made in England! It coordinates well with the same set of pasta bowls that we got with the same flower motif. It also coordinates well with other Botanic Garden collection that we have. We have an extensive collection of Portmeirion Botanic Garden dishes. Be aware that other pieces with the same flower motif may be made in China. We also ordered a covered casserole that was made in China. The color is not white but bone. The letters are all crocked. The casserole is awful. I don't understand why Portmeirion allows their brand name in such inferior quality pieces.

Make sure they are from England.

It’s a beautiful plate that I will be using as a wall hanging. It came quickly and was wrapped well in bubble wrap to protect it during shipping.

This is a wonderful set of dinner plates. We needed to replace a broken plate from our set of dishes (I dropped it on our hard tile floor and it shattered into a million pieces). We could either buy one plate for about $34 or a set of 6 for $99. So we bought 6. They match perfectly in design and size. Love them - especially the recently added sunflower plate!

I have had Portmeirion dishes for many years. Never have I tired of them. My daughter suggested I replace several as they have gotten faded during the years. So happy with them. Highly recommended!!!

I loved these plates but out of 6 dinner plates, 6 of them have developed cracks or crazing. I do put them in the dishwasher, along with my other plates from other companies, but do not put them in the oven. This is very very disappointing because they are not cheap. I don't know what's happening to Portmeirion glazes but the quality has gone down tremendously. I cannot say that they're specifically from this vendor, however.

Finally got a set in one piece. Previously ordered and returned broken. Better packaging this time. Great product. Looks amazing. Love the floral designs.

I needed to replace some broken or scratched Portmeirion plates – some were over 30 years old. A few belonged to my father and were about 50 years old!! A real testament to their quality. These plates are extremely hard-wearing and tough. They are over a quarter of an inch (6mm) thick and so quite heavy. The glaze is very thick and shiny, giving good protection to the pattern. They are microwave, dishwasher, freezer and oven friendly, attractive and very long-lasting. Overall, they are extraordinarily high quality. The plates I purchased were identical diameter to my originals, they even stack together precisely. In my experience there are only three ways to damage these plates. Place it on a hot vitroceramic hob which will crack it, drop it onto a stone floor or use an electric carving knife on it (even this strong glazing will be damaged). Otherwise these plates are virtually indestructible!
