Excellent customer service.
If I have time, I'll update my review when I receive my replacement coffee maker. (*** updated ... see below ***) I received my brand new Capresso 464 GS at 11:45 AM on Wednesday, May 4th, 2011. When I got home from work, I opened it up (around 5:00 PM) and read the instructions carefully. Prior to first use you are supposed to run 8 cups of water through the machine without grounds or beans, and the filter, filter basket, and carafe in place. I did so, and ended up with water running all over my counter top and on to the floor. I examined things to assure I didn't do anything wrong. After sopping up lots of water, I put more water in and held the machine up to see if it was dripping from any specific location. Every possible orifice on the bottom of the machine was leaking. I promptly called Capresso's customer service number.I'll say right now that their customer service is excellent. You don't get someone in a country half way around the globe. I explained the situation: purchased from Amazon and opened today; tried the initial water-run-through and got leaks galore. Within 10 minutes or so, I was told a new machine would be at my home in 2 or 3 days, along with a return label for the defective unit. All in all, I believe other companies should take the lead of this one and provide such excellent customer service. However, when I see their product is manufactured in China, and the brand new machine I received was defective right out of the box, I am sorely disappointed in Jura Capresso. Obviously there are "powers that be" in this company who want to save some money by sending their manufacturing operations to China. This is not to say bad things about Chinese laborers, but, they work for pennies on the dollar, and those companies that send their manufacturing to China are sacrificing quality for quantity and the saving of some money. Is it really worth it when it gives your company's reputation a bad name? Jura Capresso, you should be ashamed to put out a product that you charge a premium price for, yet exhibits defects right out of the box.As of May 4th, 2011, I am only giving 3 stars, and that's only because of the customer service Jura Capresso provides. I'll update my review (if I have time, as I mentioned earlier) after I receive my new unit.*** Update: May 13, 2011 ***Well, I received the replacement unit in about 5 business days. Not the 2 or 3 days I was told, but since I still had an old coffee maker that was still working I didn't mind too much. I called customer service once again on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, and got a quick, polite response with the tracking information and was told it would arrive on Wednesday, May 11, 2011. It did, and I immediately put it through the workout.Doing the initial water run-through I saw no leakage. I then programmed it to grind and brew at 5:15AM the next morning, adjusting all settings (extremely easy) as described in the simple-to-read manual. The next morning it started up as expected. Sure the grinder makes noise, but to those of you who have complained about the noise level, I'd like to know where you could find a silent grinder of coffee beans. Stop whining. Sheesh! The grind appeared quite consistent. I suppose it depends on the bean quality, but the end result coffee was very very good. Also, I did not taste any traces of chlorine or plastic. To those people who make this claim, I have to ask, did you do the initial water run-through before first use? Did you use filtered water, distilled water, or at least the filter they provide with the coffee maker? I use water filtered via our reverse osmosis filter system at home, therefore there are vitually no chemicals and no need to use the provided filter.A second morning of pre-programmed grind and brew was performed with a medium grind (instead of the coarsest grind, as recommended in the manual for the first grind-brew). Again, it perfomed nicely and produced a very tasty brew! I should mention we had the aroma setting at the darkest, and brewed 8 cups. All in all, I am raising my rating from 3 stars to 4 stars. I still need to take off a star because of the poor manufacturing I experienced.** Update June 13, 2017 **After 6 years, the machine has lived out its useful life. The electronics on the control panel now no longer work. This is understandable because of the moisture factor involved. I'm happy it lasted 6 years. It really was an excellent machine. Unfortunately the price has increased too much to justify spending that for a similar replacement. And, by the way, I am still very impressed with their customer service. I do recommend it.

Enjoying it.
This made a noticeably better tasting cup of coffee. I really like fresh ground beans and this brewer makes better coffee than I've been making with the old one. I'm not going to say it was easy or obvious how to use it but it isn't difficult. The insulated metal carafe is also very good at keeping the coffee warm. I would give 5 stars except for these issues:1. The coffee carafe if metal and there is no way to know how much coffee is in it. It is pretty heavy and I can't even tell if there is 1 or 3 cups in there. Some indicator would be nice.2. It is impossible to get all the coffee out of the carafe. You have to turn the pot upside down to get the last half cup out of the carafe.3. Minor issue but the reusable GoldTone- basket for ground coffee is a little difficult to wash out. I don't like putting grounds into my septic system and you can't shake all the grounds out before rinsing. I could use a paper filter, but it is worth noting.

Newer but not better
My wife says I am a coffee snob. Perhaps this is because I buy freshly roasted beans, freeze them immediately (to avoid evaporation of the subtle oils in the bean) and then grind and brew in one step. Capresso has the right idea but unfortunately they decided to "improve" on the original design. The brewing strength is not predictable because the grounds are dumped on one side of the filter and the water comes in on the other side. In the original design the filter was semi-conical so all the grounds slid down toward the center and the water was inserted in the center. The water level is hard to determine and that is more important when you are brewing a few cups of coffee.BOTTOM LINE: If you want everything to be automatic and don't always brew a full 10 cup pot of coffee, this isn't the one for you.The balance of this review shows what I had to do to get the original strength back. If you aren't interested, stop reading here. The final result was great but takes more work than one would expect from an automatic coffee maker. My first Capresso was purchased about 20 years ago and had a grounds collection basket that was filled by the grinder and then swiveled around so the hot water could filter through the grounds. Worked great. The original model had several aspects that led to a good strong brew: the swiveling action stopped suddenly and this caused the grounds to be more evenly distributed in the basket. Plus there was an option to brew slowly if you were brewing 4 cups or less. The reason the old one had to be replaced was because of a massive electrical failure - the heater refused to turn off and the killer was that when the unit was plugged in it would automatically release the basket from the grinding position. When the new one arrived I followed the suggestion to boil about 20 oz of water before brewing any coffee. Then the same amount of beans were measured into the grinder that had been used before for 4 "cups". [Their "cup" is 4oz. One of my mugs is just filled when using a 4 "cup" brew] The result resembled dragging a bean through hot water. Way to weak. So why might this be? First thoughts: 1 The channel between the grinder and the basket has some un-used grounds after grinding is done. 2 The water level marker is hard to see inside the black water well and I inadvertently put in almost an extra cup 3 The new model does not redistribute the grounds so they clump up on one side while the hot water comes in on the other side 4 There is no way to slow down the brewing process so as to get a stronger taste when brewing 4 cups or less.Problem 1 was a one time problem and the second was solved by measuring the water as I had done with the old model. On the second batch of coffee the result was a bit better but when the collection basket was opened problem 3 was discovered - there was a big clump of grounds on one side of the basket that had never seen a drop of water. Apparently the water only went through the grounds that spilled over from the grinder input. Rather than throw out the coffee (because it was so weak) I tested the ability of the brew basket to hold water by pouring the weak coffee back in the basket right on top of the un-used grounds. Fortunately the spring loaded valve worked and co-incidentally this solved problem 4 and allowed the brew to take longer. But what a pain.On the third batch the carafe was removed for a minute or so to allow the water-grounds slurry to build up to a high level before permitting any brew to drain out. The hope was that this would allow the unused grounds to mix with the water in the basket and increase the effective brewing time. This proved successful and the strength was back to what I expected. The result was finally a very tasty strong mug of coffee. The next question was, how much water would it take to overflow the basket? Water was poured in the basket and the result is that it can hold 16 oz, the same amount of water that corresponds to 4-"cups". Since I usually brew exactly 4 "cups", it appeared that I could keep the carafe out as long as needed to increase the strength. The next test measured how long it takes to complete the 4 cup process. Answer 3 minutes 30 seconds - but I would not wait that long to insert the carafe - so much flows so fast that it spills over.I think that the geniuses at Capresso should have addressed these problems before they "improved" the design.Wasn't this supposed to be "automatic?"

Good fresh ground coffee!
I wanted a programmable coffee maker that cost less than $400, would fit under my cupboards and had a burr grinder. This Capresso fit the bill. I've had it for about a month and so far it works very well. I did have to experiment with the variables like the amount of water vs number of cups, the grinder fineness setting and the "aroma" setting (milder, medium, stronger) before I found the right combination that results in the best coffee for me.The set up is easy, it's easy to clean. I use my own filters but a gold tone filter is included. It offers the option of grinding or brewing (but why would you brew coffee if you can grind fresh beans instead?) The first time I ran it with water only, no coffee, as per the directions, there was a lot of steam which concerned me. However, after that first time it never happened again when making coffee, although the machine does create some steam when brewing. There are some minor issues which I can live with: 1) The thermal carafe will only keep the coffee hot for about one hour, despite being "thermal." I do not make a full pot so this may be the reason it does not stay hot longer. 2) The carafe is a bit awkward to remove and replace and it is also difficult to pour out all the coffee without turning it almost upside down. 3) The grinder is loud (but only for 30-40 seconds) and the display light is very bright, things to consider when deciding where to put your machine. 4) There is also an annoying red light that is on all the time, which makes the machine look like it is still "on" which is not the case.So far I am happy with it, hopefully nothing happens to make me change my mind!

Makes great coffee from already ground.
Still trying to nail down volumes for grinding beans. So far, coffee from grounds is much better flavour than coffee from beans. But still trying....

Works, but…
Works well. Some reviews have said it’s loud… duh, it has a grinder. Shut a door between kitchen and bedroom and it’s fine.Does the job however I ran out of coffee one day and could only get ground coffee- used that (changed the setting) and tbh.. the ground coffee tasted way better and richer than when the machine grinds it. I find it doesn’t grind it fine enough for the coffee type I get, which isn’t anything special (kicking horse). I’ve tried it on all the settings and it’s still not fine enough. Also uses noticeably more beans than when I had a separate grinder and coffee maker. Maybe I’m doing something wrong but I doubt it.Still a good machine, just unlikely I’d buy it again.

Great tasting Coffee for Coffee Snobs!
I am a coffee snob. I love my coffee black and strong. I wanted an espresso machine but they are out of my budget range. I had the older Capresso Model and it lasted over 15 years, and when the heater element went, the grinder was still going strong! So I decided to get another Capresso machine CoffeeTeam GS #464. It arrived yesterday and it works perfectly. Unfortunately though, it has a stain mark as you can see in the picture. It will not wash off. I called Capresso customer service and they said that I had to deal with Amazon. I wish the mark wasn’t there, but it doesn’t affect the coffee so I suppose I will have to live with it. Amazon has a replacement policy but I cannot go two more weeks without coffee. Not sure who is to blame and it is disappointing.
