Good overall, but difficult in the most nonsense of ways
Cameras are great, good picture, good motion sensing which you can configure zones on the actual image the camera sees. Night vision works well, though I feel it may activate a little too early. wish the night vision used actual IR LEDs instead of red so it wouldn't be so visible, but they work well.now the system is where the problems are. The menus and a configuration settings are a disaster of poorly translated nonsense. Do not try and use the controller, hook a mouse to that thing because the controls are total garbage. The whole right side of the keypad won't access with the controller unless you move it across the left side first and have the cursor wrap over the the right. For some reason just pressing right on the controller won't get it there. The app isn't much better, though I need to get it properly on a new phone now, so maybe it will be better. The interface for every function is such an incomprehensible nightmare it's beyond belief. I can't believe any human being tested this in any way and gave it an ok.I still have to recommend the system because it's price and quality of the cameras, if you can get the thing set up completely it might work you past that initial nonsense. My headaches with the thing are far from over, but when I can spend a day with it, I'll get it working come hell or high water.

Very good unit. Setup/directions are NOT good, though.
I bought this to replace an existing 8-channel Swann video surveillance DVR. I bought this because I thought it would be a drop-in replacement that would work with our existing 8 analog cameras (and perhaps add some of the new cameras). Overall, it's a very good system, but I ding the rating by a star, from 5 down to 4, because the setup is difficult (and I'm a high-tech guy) and there is no user manual at all.Pros:-- it *DID* work as a drop-in replacement. The old cameras work just fine!-- Surprisingly, the images on the screen are sharper and/or higher contrast than with the old DVR, even though the cameras have not changed at all.-- we got the remote viewing via smartphone working, and SGSeye is a decent appCons:-- the directions are nearly non-existent. One page front & back was all that came with it -- no user manual at all!-- the setup is a pain in the neck (to be polite). Not the *least* bit intuitive. I did manage to set all the cameras to record with Motion is Detected, but that wasn't easy. I still haven't figured out how to exclude parts of the images from motion detection (although it can clearly do that).I haven't yet tried to replace any of the old cameras with the new, higher-resolutions ones that came with this DVR. Nor have I tried to add any of the new cameras on to cover additional areas -- yet. But I do look forward to even *better* images, when we do.

Good enough for monitoring
I have only been using the camera system for 3 weeks. The video is very good. I have not been able to get the motion sensing alert to dial down to where it is useful. I expect that is mostly a matter of thoroughly reading the documentation which I haven't gotten to. My initial attempt sent me about 25 alerts per minute - and that was with no one in the space! The app for my phone (android) is really quite good. The application for the computer is NOT very good - it is the only thing I have used Internet Explorer for in the past 5 years. I could even live with that if the backup function would actually save the video files to my hard drive, but they end up nowhere. Probably because I am running on Windows 7 and the permissions are not right yet. Still for actually watching what is going on, the cameras are great and the system was fairly easy to set up even without reading the instructions. Playback is also fairly easy to figure out.

Pros and cons.
The media could not be loaded. Pic quality is amazing. Instructions and the screws used on the cameras, not so much. Instructions tell u the wrong app but after talking to tech support, they gave me the correct app, SuperLive Plus. During the installation phase, I had to replace multiple screws that you use to adjust the direction of camera. I would barely tighten them and it would strip the threads on the metal camera. I’ve posted a pic of the bad screwed sircled in red and the screw I replaced it with circled in green. The quality of the metal where they screws go in is very cheaply made, so remember that. I’d go ahead and by 2 replacement screws for each camera. The app is amazing. It will notify while your away if there is motion and you can create barriers on each camera. The DVR needs to be plugged in to the internet of course for this to work. The installation and running wires were easy, time consuming but easy.
