Daredevil By Frank Miller & Klaus Janson Volume 1 TPB (Daredevil by Miller, 1)

This set of comics shows the move from the old Daredevil story and style to the Miller / Jansen world. It takes a little while as FM takes pencil duties, Jansen starts to better understand what FM is doing. The writing also changes as the issues progress, we still get a lot of text, but the frames and shots start to evolve into the FM/KJ style. We also have to clean house on some back stories, ending this book with the ground zero of the FM/KJ run. The kingpin in place, Electra viable and the sub plot of Venessa in play.

Apparently I had this at 1 star? It was a decent price (around £40 when I bought it) and it collects the first few issues of the legendary Frank Miller run my only concern was a few pages had tears in them so if youre buying for collection purposes only be prepared incase

I recall reading daredevil 158 when it was first released. I recall that I was not impressed with teh cover but the story blew me away. Frank Miller was bought in to revive a title which was selling poorly and needed a lift. This did it. Frank Miller’s writing moved Daredevil to a higher plain and was more gritty. Bought on Elektra and wasn’t scared to go where few writers at teh time went. I am not going to spoil teh book by elaborating, but this is a great read.

It's been many years since I last read Daredevil. Since buying the individual comic books is quite expensive, I opted for the graphic novel and wasn't disappointed! The writing and art is first class and has a much darker, grittier feel which suits the character. The background characters also lend themselves well to the storylines and the Kingpin is now more ruthless than his portrayal against Spiderman. Both Frank Miller and Klaus Janson have done wonders with the series - as David Michelinie and Bob Layton did with Iron Man. It's a pleasure to read the stories back to back and I will be purchasing volumes 2 and 3 - along with Born Again in due course.

This is a wonderful book. Reader should be warned that not all stories here were written by Miller. Having said that, I really enjoyed seeing his evolution in doing DD, and especially how things get really spectacular when he finally takes over. I can't wait to get volume 2.

A great collection of some old daredevil comics.

The issues in this collection follow th earliest stories pencilled, than later pencilled and written, by Frank Miller. They're a mixed bag, and not with out the trademark over- verbose narration and expository dialogue typical of bronze age comics; but within you can see the early traces of something quite different taking shape, particularly in the latter stories. Miller's visual storytelling appears to develop as rapidly as his scripting, until the last story proves a tantalizing glimpse of the noirish, morally grey urban heroics that would come to define much of Miller's output. Uncertain first steps perhaps, but standing rather confidently by the last pages.

OK. Pas de problème. Bien emballé et assez rapide vu d'où cela part. Dommage que certains volumes se perdent parfois. J'attends encore le volume 3.
