Question 1

It states in the instructions that a red light on the front of the device shows upon activation, but mine doesn't. Is there a fault on the one I have?

I bought this item, and it is in use now. I do not have a red light on the front of the device to show activation. But I can hear a "cricking" noise everytime anyone, or anything passes in front of device, and I rely on this noise to let me know the battery is ok and the device is working. One warning......I have mine on front lawn, and I have quite a bit of shrubbery around it. I have not had any cats dirtying on my front lawn until last night, and my husband spotted that some leafy branches were blocking the "signal" from the device. Device was moved out further into lawn, and now again is working perfectly. No I do not have a red light on the front, but I do have a distinctive noise that I rely on to let me know device is active. Hope this helps.

Is it as effective when placed within a garden shed?

Not effected at all if placed in Garden Shed.Cats do have runs like we have pavements and roads to guide us, so my daughter places a few coloured plastic bottlles in the garden, nothing unsightly, it does stop the cats , especially when the sun is shining, cats do not like the glare.It works.However the Mega -Cat Repellers are very good, Just remember to make sure the battery is working,Periodically

The high pitch sound just come on by itself  without me pressing any button? Do you know what's wrong?

No idea, shouldn't happen unless you press the test button. Had to return mine as it was on all the time and the battery went flat after a day. Try asking customer services, I found them quite helpful.New one was the same after being out in the rain, great, considering it's supposed to be outside! Placed on radiator, dried it out and it worked. Now placed a piece of plastic over it as a shield. Absolutely useless piece of kit!

Does this come with batteries included

No, unfortunally not. If you wish to run the unit on battery power you will need to purchase 2 x alkaline 6LR61 9V batteries, I would suggest Duracell for long life. However, where mains power is available you can purchase their 9volt DC universal mains adaptor order number STV 612 which is a more economical proposition long term.
