I Love This Thing
I use it to play my flac, aac, and mp3 files, sent to an external DAC and preamp, to a pair of Edifier 3000PRO speakers. I couldn't be happier with the sound and reliability. I chose this unit because I can load 3rd party apps like Neutron Music Player and MegaSync for the best music reproduction and no hassle automatic syncing of my music file libraries. I also have the remote control which works very well but must be purchased separately and is a little hard to get. Excellent product and value.FiiO makes great stuff.

Great audio, super to use, my favorite new electronic toy
I bought this to replace a Denon DA-300USB DAC/Headphone amp that I've had for several years. I have my library of music files feed from a USB hard drive into my PC and use JRiver Media Center to select the music and pass the files onto the DAC/amp. With the new FiiO R7, I am bypassing the PC and it's software entirely, am connecting the USB drive directly to the FiiO and using the touch screen to select files to play. While the user interface may not be as sexy as JRiver Media Center feeding out to a 32-inch 4K monitor, I am saving SO many kilowatts every time I listen to music! And the UI on the R7 is the same as on my FiiO M11Plus portable player. The two basically sound the same, whether I'm playing 44.1 kHz, 16-bit PCM (in FLAC format) rips of my CDs, 192 kHz, 24-bit PCM files I get from sources like HDTracks or DSD64 rips I've made of my SACDs. Until, that is, I start cranking it up. Where the old Denon used to REALLY strain to play anything at remotely high volume and the M11Plus only strains at high volumes, the R7 is utterly effortless. It has a TON of power. It also runs really cool to the touch, even when cranking it. Where the high-end portable players I've had (the M11Plus being the most recent) can get uncomfortably warm, the R7 feels like it's doing nothing. It's just effortless. The audio is fantastic; clean, tight, open, airy and detailed as can be. I do lust a bit after the R9 with its slightly bigger screen and even better specs but I honestly doubt I could hear the difference between the R7 and the R9. Maybe if I upgraded to even better headphones... Nah! I really like my Sennheiser HD 490 Pros being driven by the R7 while connected by a balanced cable. That's pretty close to headphone nirvana for me!

Solid Buy Recommendation
I’m very happy with this device. I bought it under the recommendation of YouTube’s John Darko as the solution to get native, lossless Apple Music. I had tried Tidal as the source of my Hi Res music files, but the delays in playing files and the outright refusal of the app to play on Apple CarPlay made it unworkable. I should add that Tidal, through Tidal Connect, on my prior Wiim Ultra worked fine. The Fiio R7 connects to Apple Music through the Apple Music app in an Android browser. And I have had zero issues on the Fiio or on Apple CarPlay in my car. Additionally, I’ve used the Equalizer app included with the Fiio to fine tune and tweak the sound to my preference over my integrated amplifier. It’s worked brilliantly. The only Con I’ve found is that control of the app is only possible directly from the R7 itself. You can’t use your iPhone to drive the music selection. I worked around this by buying a 35’ RCA cable to attach the R7 on my desk to my amplifier. No issues noted. As far as I’m concerned, the Fiio R7 is a solid buy recommendation.

Brilliant music at a reasonable price!
Wonderfully adaptable, great for streaming or adding your own music from an SD card. Powers anything I've got, from OTE cans to tower speakers. Use Bluetooth, optical, RCA or other connector, it does brilliantly with all of them. A really exciting piece of kit!

One issue preventing this from excellence
This unit has great sound. More than enough power for any headphones. Great features. But.. connot control with my phone like almost all other streamers. So you have to be right in front of it. Great on a desk but annoying anywhere else. I contacted FiiO. Their reply was maybe in the next update. Maybe?? It's a deal breaker. For price, DAC chip, app connect, and ease of use,.. The EverSolo beats it easily.

You will need to buy the remote for 30 buck from Amazon its not included.
The sound quality is off the hook! I did buy the remote thats not included but is should be. Makes this much easier to navigate as a streaming pre for my reference system and for my dedicated head phone amp. Super super excited about how amazing this unit is! Just buy it you will not be disappointed. 😁😁😁

UPDATE: FiiO does not seem to be updating a flawed product
**THIS FIRST PART WILL BE THE UPDATED SECTION** In my review I think I mentioned, but might have left absent, a gratuitous audio delay in the R7. At the time I believed that they were rolling out updates to address this, and after 3 months of waiting that does not seem to be the case. Recent updates have left this issue entirely unsolved, and FiiO has gotten progressively less forward in discussing the delay when it's brought up. I've had a range of interactions from outright lies, to the insinuation that I somehow voided my warranty to cause the delay myself? These are very odd custom service interactions, and an even odder way to deal with a pretty off-putting issue for a lot of people. On top of this the delay itself has only gotten worse, what started as a 150ms delay has now blossomed into a fully grown 450ms delay. With this in mind, and with my negative interactions with FiiO's customer support on what I would consider to be a serious issue, I would advise staying away from this product until you can look up an easy resolution or FiiO decides to take accountability for their engineering. The R7 is surprisingly very robust, I've only bought FiiO's budget products before and was left with a very sour taste in my mouth, this is about 7 years later though and the feature set was enticing enough to cleanse my palette and I figured I'd dive in. To keep this simple here's a list of Pros and Cons, so you can make your own informed decision, immediately followed by a summary of my own opinion. PROS: -Plenty of inputs, more than the average user would need, and suitable for hobbyists/enthusiasts and power users. -Good resolution on the touchscreen, and the display is very responsive. This is probably one of the better touch screens you'll find on a device in this price range in my experience. -Good utilization of its OS. The R7 makes a decent, not too pared back from a good DAP and it doesn't leave too much to be desired on that end. -Great sound. The R7 seems to prioritize vocals and midrange a great deal, which is perfect for me as that's the sound profile I like out of most. This is decently configurable and there are audio settings that I, personally, will most likely avoid tinkering with as I enjoy the sound out-of-box. -Updating is easy, and because of the Android OS maintaining the connections on things like wifi, bluetooth and so on is simple. CONS: -Huge delay in USB DAC mode, on some forums I've seen people document theirs at 450ms (this is practically half a second, for reference) and I believe it. This is fine for JUST listening to music, but people using USB DACs for their computers are usually expecting something a little more versatile. This is unusable for something like, say, watching a video, or playing a game. -The various audio modes lock your display on a relevant screen, exiting this screen will exit the mode. You're out of luck if you need to fiddle with settings, and there aren't really any features available to you from these modes screens. -Of the aforementioned many inputs, I don't think there are enough for lines in. This isn't a dealbreaker for most, but your options for line-in audio are optical and coaxial which aren't ports found on a great deal of common household devices that people would be seeking to connect and integrate with a setup that involves a device like this. To summarize my total opinion: The R7 is very good, foundationally, and lacking in the areas that would actually enable to be the truly flexible T-Rex of its price range. FiiO can fix a lot of these things with simple firmware updates, but the current issue is that the different forms of optimization it's seeking out are kneecapping what could serve as a fully functional all-in-one solution for home audio needs in smaller setups. Should you buy this? If you're looking for a device to set up your entire house, probably not. You might be able to patch together solutions over that much space depending on your needs but you'd be better off finding a more appropriate solution. However, if you're using this on a desk, with active speakers and/or headphones, and you don't consume multimedia formats, you're likely going to find that the R7 is the perfect price-to-performance ratio for you. It genuinely does a lot, and what it does it tends to do very well, and with optimization improvements I think FiiO will have legitimately cornered an entire market to itself by offering something very reasonably priced for the features being offered. And one final note: I had to contact FiiO support directly to troubleshoot some issues with the R7, and over email their chat was fast and responsive. I don't think they have a very well structured system for FREQUENT responses, but the responses you do end up getting are helpful, concise and easy to understand. I just wish their available documentation expound more.

Multifaceted piece
Fantastic haptics. Sounds clean. Can hear into the recording. The XLR pre out has synergy with crown amp and presents a wide soundstage.

Meets my requirements perfectly
I listen mainly to classical music and for some time I have been looking for a headphone amp/DAC that I could also use occasionally as a preamp and also to store my backed up cds. The Fiio R7 meets my requirements perfectly. The price too was good. I cannot comment on the streaming functions as this does not interest me.

Perfekt

Superb bit of audio equipment and a look at the future.
I have to start by saying this may be a slightly biased review as I really like FiiO. I think their equipment across the board provides excellent value for money. I have a FiiO BTR5 (2021), BTR7, K7 and now this R7. This means there is a piece of FiiO equipment is involved with all my at home audio consumption. The BTR's deal with my phone audio. The K7 is for my PC and now this R7 deals with all my inhouse music and TV (it has changed location from my picture provided so I could plug in my TV via optical cable) The only time I don't use something FiiO is when using my DAP. I initially wanted a FiiO DAP but was presented with such a great deal for a Shanling M6 Pro I just couldn't refuse. Having said that, it does stay hooked up to the R7 as a drive when I am not actively using it. The R7 is more than powerful enough to deal with my headphone collection and the speakers I have attached are the self-powered Triangle AIO Twins + JAMO S 810 subwoofer. Running my TV audio through the R7 was a game changer, especially movie night. I currently have Spotify and TIDAL installed on the R7 and my personal digital music collection is stored on flash drives, SD cards, DAP and on my PC which can be accessed via my home network. The fact the R7 can take all these as inputs make it a worthwhile piece of equipment as an all encompassing interface. Because it has really nice built in DAC's and Amp's it really does make this the perfect piece of equipment for my HiFi needs. It has no trouble 'properly' powering my Fostex Argon headphones (the hardest to drive headphones in my collection) In fact, it makes them really shine. It does have a bit of a learning curve when getting used to the interface as it has a massive array of features. Once you are accustomed to the R7, and all its features, it really is a joy to navigate because of the touch screen (why aren't all pieces of HiFi supplied with a touch screen these days? Even, a touch screen remote would be great) Easily my favourite pieces of HiFi equipment. I'll probably get a turntable for it soon, at which point I will not need anything else. The fact I have had this for quite a while now, 4 months-ish at the time of writing this, and I still appreciate how useful and great sounding this item truly is tells you everything you need to know.
