simplehuman Compost Caddy, Detachable and Countertop Bin, 4 Liter / 1.06 Gallon, White

I’m an avid gardener and cook who uses lots of herbs and vegetables. This bucket lasts 2-3 days for 1-2 people. No problem with gnats in the bucket even with several flying around my fruit bowl at present. The bin is easy to remove. It’s the perfect size and shape for my dual chamber compost bin. The whole unit is very easy to clean: hot rinse, spray-down with vinegar water, towel dry. Looks attractive, on the counter. The narrow dimension doesn’t impinge on counter space, even when using my biggest cutting board. This is my second ‘Simple Human’ product. I like it as much as my first purchase, a stainless steel dish draining rack. I bought this bin partly because of my (growing) satisfaction with this brand.

I am very happy with this caddy. It looks good on the counter and is designed well to save space. It's easy to flip open. It's not large, but the size works well for me and my husband. Might be too small for more people.. I do NOT however recommend the bags that come with it, so don't automatically order another box (like I did) until you try out the ones provided with the caddy. However, once I got another brand of bags, everything works well. Highly recommend!!!

My county has just started weekly curbside compost collection. A lidded pail was provided along with the curb bin, but the smell bothered my husband enough to banish it to the garage, making it hard for me to quickly toss eggshells, avocado peels, etc. Checking a lot of reviews, it looked like this one would do the trick, and I'm pretty pleased with it so far.Pros: Sturdy construction, very easy to pull apart, the green liner tub is strongly made and quite smooth for easy cleaning. My 3 gallon compostable bags line it quite nicely, albeit with plenty of extra bag "fabric" to fold over the rim -- actually a plus, as the bags don't have drawstrings, and this means I have enough to tie them off. Very nice looking. I'm pretty sure it traps the smell better than the county plastic tub. However I cannot guarantee that as my husband requested I keep it in the fridge so the scraps are kept quite cool.Cons: Not a problem for me as I don't usually generate enough food waste in a week to stuff it, but it is a fairly small volume. If you're cooking for large groups and have a ton of vegetable peels, bones, waste fat, and such, you'll be emptying this pretty often. As I said, 3 gallon bags are more than enough for it. Yet slim as it is, it doesn't fully fit in the fridge door bottom shelf (the only place I have room for it in there, and that shelf can hold gallon jugs of milk) and I'm concerned I'm going to crack the shelf plastic. Plus the only handle is the notch on the back side intended for socketing onto a large trash bin, so I have to two-handed grab the bin out when I have more than a small handful of things to drop in it. Since the top portion of the bin is held on only by gravity, if I forget and grab it too high up I just pull up the top.I'm still happy with it, but a lifting swivel handle would do wonders. The fridge door shelf problem isn't this bin's fault in the slightest, so the one star off is due only to the handle issue.

Our county recently began a curbside compost collection program. They provided large compost bags for us to use and then toss into our regular garbage bins. We wanted something that could go right on the counter to use daily -- and then dump into the large compost bags they provided. We bought certified compost bags that fit this unit and it works very well and looks sharp on our countertop. We have had ZERO issues with smell or fruit flies. We bought a second one for our cabin!

I like the shape of this little trash can because it sits flush with the wall by the sink and it doesn't take up much space. The quality of materials is high and it is so easy to keep it clean, as it is totally washable. One of the reviewers here said that flies get into it. I do get the occasional drosophila in the house because we eat a lot of bananas, but I have not experienced them getting into this bin at all. Of course, if you leave the lid open for enough time, they will get in, won't they? But what I have observed is that the lid is heavy enough to sit flush and nothing can get in. It is also super easy to open and close it fast, even with the back of your hand.

This is not my first countertop composter. My previous very good Oxo composter eventually got too grody to keep out on the counter so I upgraded to this one with its smooth stainless exterior. It has a smaller footprint than the Oxo and looks much better on the counter. It is totally worth the price. I like everything about it!

Must-have, especially if you already have a simplehuman trash bin. It cleverly latches to the side of my dual compartment bin.No compost smells with this, as the lid closes snug. Easy to clean. I empty it about once a week. Perfect size.

The product is a utility… Strong and Beautiful.. A must have for all those who keep their kitchen clean..A perfect combination of Quality, Size & Utility!! Happy to buy another one for my Office Pantry…

Complementa muy bien con otros productos de la marca Simplehuman pues viene con un adaptador para “colgarlo” a un costado de otros botes de basura grandes/dobles de la marca.Tiene precio un poco elevado para un bote de basura pero lo compensan su gran calidad y diseño.Por lo que hace a la durabilidad, los productos de esta marca son muy resistentes y se mantienen funcionales por más de 10 años, con un cuidado o mantenimiento mínimo-nulo.Lo mejor es que tiene un tamaño ideal para una o dos personas (4L), así ya sólo tienes que cambiar la bolsa 1 vez a la semana.Usa bolsas compostables Código Z de Simplehuman (viene 30 bolsas de regalo) pero puedes utilizar de marca genérica de 45x45cm y le quedan bastante bien.

Helaas paste het niet aan mij simple human afvalbak. Nu gebruik ik het los. Voor gezin lijkt het me te klein, maar voor mij perfect. Mooie degelijke kwaliteit.

Just what I needed. Looks stylish and very practical. The idea of it being magnetically attached to main bin so you can take it off and use it on the side is great. You want a bin and caddy combination very practical you can’t beat this.
