Great everyday carry knife
Been looking for a good everyday carry knife that is not tactical looking or heavy. More in the camping or Bush Craft style. I saw the price on this Old Timer and watched a few review videos and decided to get one. The knife came in quick and in good condition. No issues with brass pins, lose knife blade or saw blade. Knife was sharp out of the box and everything works well. The leather sheath is of good quality leather and craftsmanship. I do recommend for its price but also because it is a good everyday carry knife depending on what you do on a day to day period. I will use it for everyday activities, camping, and hiking. I do carry a tactical knife for self defense as well.

Surprisingly high quality.
They used to be American made, but got sent to China now. That said, I was surprised by the quality of this knife. It was well beyond my expectations. It came shaving sharp...literally. The blade has smooth, crisp action. The saw locks, and also has smooth, crisp action, with sharp, well made, teeth. Priced in the $20's it's well worth the price.I recommend it, and wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

Very nice, as advertised.
I have never been a big fan of Schrade's Delrin Knives. I saw a review of both this the 97, and the 96. So I got both. This, the 97 comes with a pouch. The 96 does not. A bit silly as they are both almost exactly the same size. The Delrin is only slightly different. I love both. I like the Tweezers and Pick. They fit well into the frame and of course I broke a nail trying to get them out. So yeah, they are quite secure! No worries of them falling out! I know Delrin is virtually indestructible and as a Walk-about knife these are almost perfect! I live in the high dessert and know from experience that pulling cactus spines from your boots (or Dog!) is a LOT easier with a good Spike and Tweezers! I just wish they had included the correct Pouch with the 96!

I think it looks better this way because they match the pins
Bolsters on knife received are a golden color just a bit lighter than brass, not aluminum or steel as in the current picture. I think it looks better this way because they match the pins.Fit and finish are not great, but are not bad for a knife in the $20 price range.Scales appear to be glued on as well as pinned. Some excess glue is visible in the holds for tweezers and pick, but it's a rubbery adhesive that was easy to score and peel off with the tweezers and pick. The tweezers are a single piece of metal. They are easy to adjust by bending. The pick is thin enough to use as a toothpick, and appears to be strong enough to use as a leather punch.Blade came sharp enough to slice standard copy paper.Blade centering is a little off, but not enough to scrape the blade when closing. There is a thin liner lock on the saw blade made from the unsupported center liner that divides the blades. A little pressure on the back of the saw blade does cause it to give a little bit. I wouldn't trust the lock to stand up to much pressure on the back of the saw blade, but that shouldn't be an issue for this size of sawThe knife arrived oily and with crud in the nooks and crannies. The action was gritty. After a cleaning and a bit of mineral oil its decently smooth. For the price (around $20 as of this review), this is a good buy.

Surprisingly nice.
The saw on this knife is pleasure to use for making traps, snares and such. Pretty easily 1/2” longer stroke than most others I’ve seen or used takes good edge on blade. Only con would be handle a little squarer than older Usa built Old Timers. All in all good value on a useful tool

Well made
I bought one of these from another company, it had light scratches on the handles even though it was sealed in the package and the knife blade didn't snap shut. There was a brass shaving that I couldn't remove next to the liner and handle. I sent it back and ordered from Amazon, this one had better color, no scratches and the blades snapped both ways. I am pleased with this knife, I wish they were still made in USA. No country of origin was on the knife but marked China on the box. This is a nice knife though and has a nice leather sheath.

Disappointed
This is not the quality trapper your father or grandfather carried. Received my 97OT Buzzsaw Trapper today, and was disappointed with the quality, workmanship, and material used for this Old Timer. First, let me say that no matter what the you tuber reviews say, just remember the manufactures send them custom products, not production products to review. This is a dull knife, I'm not saying it is not as sharp as I'd like it, I am saying the edge is completely rounded and not sharp at all. The tweezers are cheap junk. They seem to be made of a cheap steel, they have no spring tension to them and are loose in the handle and easily fall out. Add to that, the tip of the tweezers do not line up, about a 1/16th of an inch difference between the tips. So I'll need to file them down even. However, they still will not be useable. Survival on purpose talked about how sharp the pick was on the review, the one I have is blunt and bent. The back strap springs seem to be worn out and weak, compared to a fifty year old trapper that belonged to my father. There is no longer any quality standard in the Old Timer name, or Schrade brand. Bti, S&W, or who ever took over, it is clear they are not vested in quality. Sad, but this is the second failed Schrade product I've received, and I will no longer purchase or recommend any product line of this company. On the other side, to help save some one else some disappointment, in the same price range and ability I see that the Victorinox Camper and Hiker would be a better alternative to the Old Timer 97OT. Even the Victorinox Walker would be suitable and is less than 20.00. Hope this review helps the next person looking at this knife.
