A cyborg policewoman attempts to bring down a nefarious computer hacker. Review: A Fantastic 3D Cyberpunk Movie Experience - I really cannot fathom why this film is so derided. As a fan of the original anime, I came to this expecting to be disappointed—I was amazed to find just how wrong I was. A superbly crafted movie that carves out its own identity and ideas, without tarnishing or diminishing its source material. Scarlett Johanson gives a powerful, emotionally nuanced performance as Major, The rest of the cast is, likewise, excellent. My third viewing of the film was on my new home cinema setup: 5:1 surround with a Pioneer VSX-934 receiver, viewed on an Epson TW5650 projector. Honestly, a SUPERB all round movie experience. The attention to detail in the city environments is simply incredible, with wonderfully immersive use of 3D. The 3D Blu Ray is beautifully crisp, clear, and smooth—wonderful contrasts, depth of colour, and the sound quality is first rate. This version comes with the 3D Blu Ray and a Standard Blu Ray version, along with an UltraViolet code. Currently sitting at £3.52, it’s an absolute bargain, and frankly, deserves far more praise than it currently receives. As an all round package, this easily merits 5 stars for me. Anyone who enjoys well realised Sci-Fi in the vein of Blade Runner, Westworld, or futuristic anime owes it to themselves to check this film out. Future cult classic. Review: Best approached with an open mind if you are already a fan of GITS - Hmm... being very familiar with the Ghost in the shell canon of work, (3 Manga volumes, The original animated film, the second animated film (innocence), Anime of 52 episodes (Ghost in the shell & Ghost in the shell 2nd gig), 3 animated films based on the series (Laughing man, individual eleven and solid state society), 4 animated films in the Arise series, plus an additional film hanging off the end of the Arise series), I struggled with the plot as it seemed to bounce around the several different parts of the entire canon of work, which caused me some cognitive dissonance as the story did not develop as I expected based on existing works and the way that the title character is referred to a "major" as opposed to "THE major" drives me nuts. That being said, I would have given it 4 stars instead of five because the aforementioned cognitive dissonance, but it is a very good film and therefore I gave it five. If you are unfamiliar with the existing canon, then it is a good film in its own right and you will not be disappointed. If you want to dig deeper into the back story, start here and then progress to the rest of the works. Probably the best order is as follows: Ghost in the shell Arise parts 1,2,3,4 - How the team was originally put together. Ghost in the shell the movie - This is the animated movie hanging off the end of the Arise series. Ghost in the shell original movie - this is what the film is roughly based upon. Ghost in the shell anime season 1 - 26 episodes Ghost in the shell 2: Innocence - This animated film sits nicely in the middle of the 2 animated seasons. Ghost in the shall Manga - 3 volumes Ghost in the shell anime season 2 - 26 episodes All in all, a good film that can stand alone separately from the rest of the work, but just scratches the surface on a collection of work that is probably one of the best anime series ever made, and therefore best approached with an open mind if you are already a fan of GITS.

Nippy action film
This was much better than I was expecting. Perhaps I brought low expectations to it and that is why it impressed me. The plot isn't Shakespearian but what do you expect of a graphic novel? Its two big plus features are Scarlett Johannson and its effects. No one looks into a camera better than Scarlett and she also acts her socks off in this. The film feels like Blade Runner and is on a scenic par with Ridley Scott's masterpiece. For reasons that escape me our heroine wears a skin-tight costume most of the time and this brings bizarre moments such as when she, with her kit off, is punching a tank. Yes, that happens. We live in strange times. I saw this when I was catching up with La Johannson on the same day that I saw her in Black Widow. This is a MUCH better film than that.

Went in expecting three stars, was very pleasantly surprised
Really enjoyed this film! If you are a fan of the manga and / or anime, don't come into this expecting a scene for scene remake of the original film. Instead, expect to find familiar themes, scenes, and lines remixed to create an original story that is entertaining from start to finish. Scarlett Johanssen makes a great Major, giving the right level of detachment for her situation. Anybody that complains about having a non-asian actor for the role is talking utter nonsense. A Japanese woman's mind inhabits a generic female shell. Beat Takashi is just about perfect as Aramaki, an old bad-ass that nobody gets the better of. Batou's story is in the background, but we see how he comes to get his signature eye mods. Saito has little screen time, but what he has is excellent. Togusa is perhaps underused, but generally this is very much The Major's story. The visuals are awe-inspiring, seriously some of the best I have seen in getting across a vision of a tech-heavy future. Scenes from the source material are brought to life brilliantly. The accompanying soundtrack has shades of the original film, but is very much a dark, synthy, 80s inspired layer that adds great atmosphere to the film. I went in expecting three stars, was very pleasantly surprised.

A nicely diffenent take on what I knew from before
This was great! I had only watched the Stand Alone Complex series previously, which had most of the main characters, and really liked that. This story was very different in a lot of ways, but in the end the team survived.

Meet Major
Ghost in the Shell is a live action film version of a popular Japanese Anime franchise of the same title. For the uninitiated, Japanese comics are called Manga. Animated films based on them are called Anime. Ghost in the Shell is near future set cyberpunk [thrillers involving lots of technology], involving a special police unit called Section 9. Who deal with technological related crimes. And their leader Major. A human mind inside an artificial body. The series uses this to, in addition to telling cybercrime thrillers, consider the big questions of what it means to be human. In a world where the distinction between humanity and machine gets very blurred, as people get technological enhancements. The film draws together various elements of several animes in the series to become a single live action version. It's probably best for hardcore fans of it to judge this for themselves, as it's really going to be a matter of individual opinion as to whether it does the anime justice or not. In this live action Major, played by Scarlett Johansson, is hunting a dangerous criminal when she discovers a bigger problem. She's been lied to about her past and her origin. The quest for the truth might be very hard... You can't fault the production values of this. With an impressive look to the city scenes. The visuals effects for all the technology and human enhancements you see are superb and highly convincing. There's a good supporting cast of characters. But it just lacks a little bit of emotional depth to it. Of the other characters, Pilou Asbaek as Batou, Major's right hand man. and Takeshi Kitano as section head Aramaki are the only ones who really get enough material to allow them to make an impression. The former because his character is given enough traits to add depth. And the latter by saying a lot through non verbal acting. This is not to fault the rest of the cast at all, but their characters won't stick in the mind for long. And Major's emotional journey is not one that is very vocalised, so you never feel for her as much as you could. A good looking and well acted film, and not a bad attempt at the subject matter at all. But not one that will stick in the mind for long after. Still, it is worth a watch. Some scenes are in Japanese, with English language subtitles. Which cannot be turned off. The disc has the following language and subtitles options: Languages: English, French. Subtitles: English, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, Norwegian, Swedish. It also has English audio description. The disc goes straight into the main menu when loaded, without any ads or trailers. Extras: Two featurettes: Section 9: cyber defenders. Man and machine: the ghost philosophy. They both run ten mins [approx.] They are both the usual kind of promotional feature, which has clips from the film and the production as cast and crew talk about characters and aspects. The former looks at the characters. The latter at the big questions the film raises. Both are long enough to give them more depth than such features usually have, so are worth a look. It also has the usual flyer with code for downloading a copy of the film to a digital device.

Asian "Blade Runner"
"Ghost in the Shell" 2017 Is an excellent Live-Action remake of the 1995 original Japanese Manga and Anime versions that were inspired by the 1960s "Philip. K. Dick" short story "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" That became the 1982 film "Blade Runner". and is such an Asian Japanese interpretation of the earlier stories. I have watched the Anime ver. and its sequels of "G,I.T.S."many times over. The producers of the Live-Action version appear to have gone to great lengths to recreate the feel and atmosphere of the original Manga and Anime.

Watch it.
SJ can do little wrong in my eyes (except appear in too many SF films as opposed to straight ones). I watched, or attempted to, the original Japanese version and hadn't a clue what was going on. This one is as clear as crystal, though. OK, it's westernised and there was criticism of the producers for giving the lead role to a non-Japanese. But it's entertainment (with a touch of philosophy) for goodness sake. SJ is brilliant, sexless but sexy in a body's to king, and the whole film is a joy.

Pues sinceramente, a mi me encanta
