It depends on what you want to do with it. It is fine for clearing drainage pipes that would lead into the tank. I'd find a drain cover, lift it and check the pipe size first, though.

Since the rod screws onto the end of the plunger, I really do not understand the question. The rods will be in your hand!

It is *not* 5in - I just bought this thinking it was larger - it is definitely only a 4in (about 100mm) dia. In fact I now see in the product dimensions it says it is 9.7cm x 9.7cm (ie about 97mm diameter!)
