Great spec, super value
We bought the A-9150 amplifier together with the Onkyo T-4030 tuner. The amplifier has an excellent specification for power output and low distortion and a host of features such as for optimising the number of speakers and speaker impedance, type of turntable pickup etc. Both digital and analogue inputs (4 of each) are provided and there are nice big binding post screw terminals for connecting the speaker cables. The remote control facilities are great, and if you have other Onkyo products such as the Tuner or CD player these can be linked together so that they all work from one handset. (Turning the amplifier off turns all the other connected items off too, so rather neat.)One very minor criticism is that the writing on the black front panel, being a pale grey colour, can be difficult to see in dim light.

Top Quality Amp
I purchased this amp 2 weeks ago it was an upgrade from the Onkyo A9050 amp. I have a full Onkyo system ie: amp, cd, tuner, and turntable and I have to say they have all proved to be in my view audiophile quality. The A9150 amp is made from top quality parts solidly built I can't find anything bad to say about it, from the moment I switched on the sound field opened right up first thing I tested was its phono amp my turntable has a high end mc cartridge I played my reservoir dogs Lp through my Q Acoustics concept 20 speakers what I can I say except fantastic, so far I haven't found anything I don't like about this amp. Definitely worth the money.

Not Vinyl Friendly
The specification for this particular amp appeared to meet my specific needs especially the rated output power for my Mission 780SEs rated for 25W – 75W as well as the MM/MC phono selectivity arrangement. The latter was particularly of interest as on line auctions allow MC cartridges to be more accessible.Upon receipt the quality of the unit was immediately visible especially the terminal arrangement and construction. Switching to the CD input served only to increase my happiness with the unit as the sound was superb both in tonal quality and sheer clarity of sound. However, the joy soon evaporated when switching to the phono input which in my case is via expensive Shure/B&O MM cartridges fitted within SME 3009 series 2 & 3 tone arms. Here it became evident that the volume had to be wound up to nigh 75% capacity before it started to become loud. On a like for like basis my QUAD 33/405 combo is about 15%.I then noted that when switching to the MC input and indeed after turning down the volume as common sense and the manual also refers to that there was virtually no change in volume only tonal quality. To cut a long story short the latter concerns were put to Onkyo via the Amazon supplier who responded by saying that my speakers were at fault in respect of the 75% volume issue and that the A9150 was really an entry level amp and that people with MC cartridges tend to buy more expensive amplifiers. So there we are, ONKYO themselves have left their own review?I actually returned my amp as I believe there is something wrong with the MM/MC switch technology as well as its inability to drive a highly appreciated set of bookshelf speakers. I would provide a 5 out of 5 rating for Audio Visual online who are most helpful from a commercial and technical viewpoint. The 3 out of 5 recognizes that the item does provide a good sound and could be a good unit.

Lifeless, Dull and Uninspiring
I've had my eye on this amp for many months, read all the positive reviews both on here and elsewhere. When Amazon had one of their flash sales and brought it below £300 I thought it was a no brainer. However, I can't help but feel I've been reading about a different amp - what a letdown this is.The amp looks nice, the remote works well and its accepted all the different digital sources I've tried. But, the sound, well it just lacks any get up and go. I've tried it with Celestions both new and vintage, Missions, B+W and Leaks. In every case its not a patch on my 90's Pioneer AA series. Not a patch. Volume is weak ( You need about 1/3 before it even gets going). It just doesn't seem to have any 'punch', any proper presence. Its dull, lifeless and uninspiring. I regret not returning it, despite the 'bargain' price, but I kept thinking I'm missing something, that it will sound amazing with some combination or other. Yes I've read the book, yes I've set the impedance option correctly, tried bi-wire using both A+B channels as the book suggests. I don't think anything will make me love this amp.

Buen aparato

Good listening and connections
Looked replacement for an old 90's amp (Rotel). Onkyo amps have received very good reviews on musical performance. After two months, I have nothing to complain (old was a bit dull and had no remote). I was a bit worried about power, but this runs my B&W CM (8 ohm) loudspeakers well (considering the need to think neighbours also). Also headphones offer very spacious and clean sound, enjoyble (DT770, 250 ohm). And yes, the connections are very good, 4 digitals give flexibility, future also. So, this has no in-built wifi or BT but I think its good, since in any case it is best to attach separate devices for those. Not used phono yet, but i like it is there. Old school, but modern. Excellent for price.
