I couldn't cut mine that way and used a very fine saw which worked well

Probably, but I think it would be better to use the thickest version for strength. I am sure you could glue it - but if you want to screw it you need to use the right drill or it might create damage to the panel around the drill hole. Also you would probably need washers to strengthen anysuch drill holes
